i wouldnt say a 4094 would be prime. that charger sucks. its laggy and wont do any better then a s366 htt. im going with a 4708 under my htt 66/74. the 4718 is badass but you also have to remember, kelly said hes seing 90+ lbs boost. screw that. thats getting close to needing a hard block.

plus in a 4094 situation you would have to run a external gate and that is very expensive and fabbing is time consuming on that part. cant beat the htt.

I can't say much about the S490, but a 4718 is a lot bigger than an S480.

how do you figure? frame size yeah, compressor wheel is bigger but the s480 has a bigger exhaust wheel. i personally like garrett chargers also but a s490 would actually have bigger wheels in it.

From looking at the size's of wheels things seem more even between the S400's and the 4718 than they are , but when you look at the maps the 4718 flows a good 10-15 lbs per minute more than the S480 if i remember right . And from what i have heard the 490 doesnt flow much more than the s480 but i still might try it . Just juging what i have seen from my kit , the S480 works really good for the money and the boost seen is sane enough for most and has proven on several trucks to be good for 800-850 hp ( probably 900 capable ) . Like 02bigstroken said , 100 lbs of boost is tough to keep motors together unless its is setup to run that amount . The only thing I would like out of the S480 is a little more flow on the turbine , the compressor is side is fine for my taste and level of performance and boost......................... for now .

you don't have to run 90 lbs. my goal is to get it setup around 75-80 max. cost me 600 bucks to plumb in an external gate. from what i have seen i would agree with Trent 480 is good for 8-900. my best guess would be the 4718 is good for maybe another 100hp. I am basing this only on HP calculators and what i have seen at the track. HP calculator puts my truck at 1030, I don't think it's quite that high but who knows.

My comments were based only on the compressor inducer. Jumping from 80 to 88 is a huge difference. The good thing is if you twin with a GT47, a GT55 is a direct swap.

42/55 would be too much for you... a 4094/4718 is a perfect combination, the S366/4718 is close behind it but remember the problem going with the S366 is expandability... you are now limited to a T3 turbo
Is that your expert opinion, or is that what someone else told you?

I've heard the S366/GT4718 combo is good for 1000 on fuel.

Wrong, The majority of S300s are T4, can change wheels & housings unlike a Garrett

no your wrong, s300's llike the bd, htt, silver bullet ect.. are t3.
where people get things confused is if you call up( for example) forcedinductions and tell them you want a s300, youll be getting a t4 flange charger that sits up like a gt42. like dustins or travis, their chargers are considered s300's to some companies. the smaller t3 ones are actually s200's. but nobody calls them that. trust me i ordered a "s300" and had to return it because it was what most people refer to as a s400. deiffrent places use different terminology.

your right, you dont have to run that much boost, i dont know how much my 4708 is going to make, but im thinking ill probably not have to worry about a external gate and still be right around where your wanting to be max boost. my point is whats the use in haveing the 4718 if your just going to gate it down to where the 4708 is?

An S400 with a 91mm compressor and 96mm turbine wouldn't flow more than the GT4718's 88mm comp and 92.7mm turbine?

If not there's always the S595 which flows a whole lot more than a GT47;)

No true S400 comes with a 91mm wheel. That is a hybrid. Even then I doubt it would out run the GT4718. Garrett has some new wheels out that make even better.

The S500 is a Thumper class turbo why compare it to the the GT47? Is moves more air but not a lot. If you want a thumper turbo get a GT55 and be done with it.

I like Borg Warner turbos. But they are Budget turbos. When place head to a true S400 will not hold a candle to a GT47.

I am not of every Garrett turbo. I dont like the GT40 series at all. I perfer the the S300 or a small S400 instead. But when you get int the larger stuff I like the GT42, GT45 and GT47s better. So does the dyno.:thumb:

Another thing to think about is what turbos do the top custom shops in the country use as a base for there turbos. Namely Precision and and Columbus? Hint not Borg Warner.

Thats Right :D My truck was clearing up 60% over injectors completely, Rob decided not to add more pulse width in fear of damaging a piston. If my twins dont sell i will probably be going with 120%+ over injectors. I think it has a lot more potential in it. It was only hitting around 70lbs of boost. The streetablility isnt too bad either, i put around 3k miles on the truck this summer, just driving it on the weekends, i even hauled a few things home from lowes.:D

I don't know about all the S400 hate...

We made 760hp on fuel with Winstons S400 with 72mm comp and 83mm turbine. I made 821hp on fuel with my S400 with a 75mm comp and 83mm turbine. Same dyno and cooler temps (the night before after dark) Ed Wayne made 760hp on fuel with a GT4202. As far as Dave Dunbar could remember my truck was the highest fuel only single turbo he had run on his dyno. With the right PW my single BW charger will clean up all the smoke from 100% over injectors and still run 11.1s

I don't hate Garrett, but the price and ability to rebuild and swap parts on the BW stuff makes it my turbo of choice. What does it matter if some of the better "BW" stuff is hybrid or custom?? Even the custom and hybrid BW turbos are cheaper than the standard Garrett chargers.

Just my $.02

All the shops you mentioned are diesel shops that sell turbos made elsewhere for mostly cummins, they come with a T3 & are internally gated. The companies that build the turbos list them with T4s & have an option of T3.
