You can buy alot of stock short blocks for the price of one properly built short block. I'm in the same boat, but I think I will just end up throwing in some headstuds, 30 overs, and call it a day. If you can make a motor last at 550-600hp, I don't see the benifit of 200hp more for $15-20k...

here is one thing i like about the way i did my build.

first, it was cheap. 5k for a built short block. at that price, i feel the same way as i did before i built it "i dont want it to break but if it does, we build it a little better" accept the chances of a cheaper rebuild are more likely to happen now than before.

second, i get in it and honestly, its the last worry on my mind now. im more worried about the stock 45* boot i still havent changed out with the new PPE boot i have sitting in the back seat.

the motor isnt my worry till i put the big tune in, all the other worries of drivetrain parts are what starts running through my head but now after rebuilding my t-case, u-joints are my only worry and i check those regularly.

everyone complains about the money. i did and still do every once and while about what i have into it but i need to concider it a written off ticket. im not about to sell any of the motor parts cause of the smile i get so i just need to get the f**k over it. it didnt help i put myself in not the best of situations financially when i hurt the motor but im well out of that hole now

i would do it over again if could go back.

What did you do for internals? Curious as im sure I'm on borrowed time with my lbz. Driving around on the big tune, 366 and stock sticks. Its only a matter of when they let go

I'm guessing those here claiming motors are 15-20k to build are not building them their selves or will be doing a lot of other parts besides motor parts.

Mine rigger, it's been a long time since I built it and I forget the details. Look up "chevy1925 motor build" on here but the jist is stock pistons delipped only (no coating), crower rods, new h bearings, stock crank and the other goodies to go with. Only thing I'd change is adding fingers pistons. These pistons are my only worries.

I guess I'm in the minority. I hardly ever run my truck at the track and I'm quite glad I built the motor. I'm not claiming it's "useful" power, but it's definitely fun. If it was my DD I wouldn't have done it, running around at over 800hp as a DD is going to leave you stranded.

Mine is my daily driver. Unsure where I will be at HP wise. 366 100% overs dual stock pumps so cal 6480 AF cam stock heads ported by Wagler. Hoping for 700 with the 366 as a single, and planning on twinning it in the near future

Kory won't sell it to you?

NOPE talked to Stephanie yesterday and she said she wouldn't and didn't offer delete tunes that are unlocked or not on an auto cal.
Thought that was odd since the guy on here I bought the mini maxx's from two weeks ago said he has a unlocked tune for his LML from kory that he modifies himself. and can't ever get kory to respond when I email him in the past to ask about it. I know he's busier then a one legged cat burying shit in a sandbox im sure lol

James you didn't do new pistons, you didn't buy new rods, you didn't do manifolds & up pipes, bigger valve springs(least I don't remember you doing them) bigger push rods, new pumps, new studs main or head, the list goes on I did everything myself and I'm in mine 13 k. Rods and pistons are 3800-4k by themselves

You skimmed by nothing wrong with that I almost did the same thing personally looking back I still wish I did go cheaper but o well its only money can't take it with ya :D

This is why I was a little biotch and bought mine with a built motor/trans already. Was verified and documented for only a couple grand over what I would have paid for it with a stock motor

no one said you HAD to do all what you guys are doing either ;). but your also adding in things that are not directly motor related. up pipes and manifolds are 100% nessacary to build the motor and get it running, nor are new pumps. Hence the "or will be doing a lot of other parts besides motor parts" of my post. My main studs were new btw :D. Trent ran this same 5k setup to 1200hp before it cracked a piston and brian is on a 5500 all new bottom end besides pistons and its still alive for the time being :D.

if you want me to add all the little add ons i did along with the motor, i have 9k total which includes, the duap pump kit and cp3, injectors and tips, LML driver side manifold, and other little odds and ends. i never plan on running over 3600rpm so i had no need for valve springs or push rods.

Im speaking motor only. what it takes to acutally build just the motor without all the frills to hold the hp you want. My used parts motor is running damn well after 22,000 miles :thumb:

Heres what i find kind of entertaining.

guys will buy ppe or ricks manifolds/up pipes (1100ish)
bigger injectors (2kish, less if you just do tips and keep % over small enough)
new valley pump or dual pumps (600 at the least, 1600 for duals)
turbo kits (anywhere from 1500 peiced together to 6k for bad ass twins/triples and could still go up from there)
built trans with an average price of 4k
lift pump that can support decent power at 400-600 bucks (the kind that includes filters)

so even on the cheaper end of it, we have a grand total of close to 10k in these go fast goodies but when the talk of building a bottom end comes up, everyone gets scared and yet they are scared of the hurting the bottom end on the power they are currently at. so why not build the short block to hold that power and not worry any more? you did it with the trans and for 2k more, you can do it with the motor. you cant tell me your out of cash when you have over 10k in parts just on the truck. you can do just like you did with those parts and buy peices here and there over time.

is the motor gunna last forever now? no but it has a better chance at a longer life after your done assuming quality work was done. Same thing with your built trans, its not going to last forever either.

I've been tossing the idea around for a while and finally came to the conclusion that my truck power wise is about as much a you can use on the street in 2wd. At this point I'm having a blast with it. The main thing I have to worry about is cracking a piston, so if it happens I figured I would just tare it down and upgrade the pistons if the block is salvageable. It would be fun to have 800 horse but 600 is no joke and I'm content.
