Heres what i find kind of entertaining.

guys will buy ppe or ricks manifolds/up pipes (1100ish)
bigger injectors (2kish, less if you just do tips and keep % over small enough)
new valley pump or dual pumps (600 at the least, 1600 for duals)
turbo kits (anywhere from 1500 peiced together to 6k for bad ass twins/triples and could still go up from there)
built trans with an average price of 4k
lift pump that can support decent power at 400-600 bucks (the kind that includes filters)

so even on the cheaper end of it, we have a grand total of close to 10k in these go fast goodies but when the talk of building a bottom end comes up, everyone gets scared and yet they are scared of the hurting the bottom end on the power they are currently at. so why not build the short block to hold that power and not worry any more? you did it with the trans and for 2k more, you can do it with the motor. you cant tell me your out of cash when you have over 10k in parts just on the truck. you can do just like you did with those parts and buy peices here and there over time.

is the motor gunna last forever now? no but it has a better chance at a longer life after your done assuming quality work was done. Same thing with your built trans, its not going to last forever either.

HAHA man you must be talking about me cause I have done just that. except im obviously not afraid to spend the cash on the bottom end parts cause they are sitting on my shelf. when people ask how much I have into my setup now and want theirs just like mine I say 10K$ not including any labor so if you want this done to yours its gonna run you 15K+ to have me do all the work. I'm just going to hang onto the parts for now they are pad for and aren't hurting anything and throw my 60's in sometime and re tune and see how that is for awhile. I have a spare block on the stand to build and maybe this winter I will build it. still kinda kicking the idea around of putting it in that 86 k10 in front of the 4l80E that I have that has 3/4 axels. now that thing would be quick with 600+ in there. might really have something but still no way I would ever cage that pickup way to nice and well kept.

lol close to it! everyone has this "fear" about built motors and what goes into them but the guys that tell them what a "built motor" cost is generally including all the cost of the additional go fast goodies he added to the truck as well. When i tell them, its just what i have into the motor to get it back running again. ya just gotta be resaonble in your thoughts of what you want to do with the truck and build it to that. We arent at the point of making a 1000hp reliable DD, Hell LS cars arent even there IMHO.

I think that 1000hp daily drivers are 100% possible. As long as they aren't driven anywhere near 1000hp lol. I haven't dynoed my truck with the new sticks yet but I plan on breaking into the 4 digit power range. The truck is very driveable on every tune but I can't see hurting anything on my truck on tunes 1-3 450-700ish hp if I had to guess

put me in the driver seat and that 1000hp motor/trans/tcase/or drive shaft wont last long lol. my sense of using a "1000hp" truck is to actually use it like i use my 600hp now (tow on it, flog on it, let someone else use the truck and not teach them how to drive it, ect). there is no way it would hold :roflmao:

I baby mine most of the time but I like to stretch the legs when I have the chance. Race tune 5th gear converter locked highway pulls put an enormous grin on my face but I have been super happy with my middle tune. It will still smolder the tires even on the girly tunes.

It was the same for me. Who cares, people love to spend other peoples money, I had a ton of guys freak out when I told them I sold my truck for a stocker. I just laughed and thought to myself, you just wait untill you see what I do with this one...;)

I'd rather have a built motor truck that's paid for than a brand new truck that you'll lose money on in the long run. Unless you get 0% interest or can pay it off quickly, of course.

Honestly, I race less now than I did with a stock motor but I beat on it with much more confidence on the street. I'm on my 3rd torque converter and 2nd built trans, and I'm pretty sure the xfer case needs rebuilt. Everything else is holding up just fine. Hasn't left the big tune in 2 years, approx 700rwhp. If you already have the parts, might as well build it, throw a big single on and have some fun.

Yeah just missing the gaskets and machine work and the heads. the way it is right now its a lot more fun to drive then the new ones. that's nothing compared to payments and insurance on a new one. also looked at doing Katzkins seat covers on it to change the inside a little.

I've done Katzkins in Two of my trucks, and I love them! It's fairly simple to do yourself if you want to save some pesos. Your fingers will hurt like a B word when your done. All you need is some hog ring pliers and rings, razor blade, basic hand tools, and some patience.

Where did you get them and what did they run you for a set?
