What makes a cheetah turbo spool better at low end than a non vvt turbo? Is the cheetah two different turbo housings. Stock on the hot side and not on the cold side?

come on kevin you could of just called me. the housing is the factory housein but they have been machined for the larger wheels. the wheels are not just wheels bought from other turbo manufactures and then stuck on the shaft. they have a different fin desgn on them. they are all high flow wheels and high stength shafts.

if i am not mistaken which i very well could be i believe he said that the stock shaft couldnt handle the stesses of the larger wheels so he replaced the shafts. but as i said i could be wrong

I think you are mistaken Tommy. Your turbine shaft was not stock. The turbine wheels are friction welded to the shafts and all turbine wheels are changed in the making of a Cheetah. Looks similair to a stock shaft but it is not.

And yet the turbo blew eh?

HMMM could be i guess i thought brayden had said it was stock and i thought the wheels where bolted on hence the nuts on the end but i dont know enough about them. at least on the lmm ones mabey the lly uses a stronger shaft. But then again i could def be wrong wouldent be the first time

Blew is a common term. What actually happened to the turbo? Shaft break, wheels explode, bearing failure, just curious.

it hasent made it back to braydens yet so not sure. the saft did not break thoe.:) My guess would be seal or bushing faliure.

Bearing/bushing/thrust failure is more than likely he cause. If you don't mind me asking how much vane position were you running. On an engine with big fuel, you can somewhat easily overspeed them. On my truck the tune has the vanes open all the way after the charger is lit. We have had a few fail from overspeeding and are trying to come up with a ball bearing design to help alleviate this problem.

Ball bearing would def be the better option if it can be done :)vane postion was pretty wide open. i only ran around 37 psi

These replys kinda touched on some of my concerns. To run big fuel and big boost will these things over rev? Whats the max boost out of the biggest cheetah with out loosing efficiency?

The reason I ask is trying to decide between a big cheetah or using the stock LBZ turbo in 1st position and a K31 in 2nd in a twin setup. K31's are pretty resonable. Would the stock turbo still overspeed in this set up too???

i dont think a k31 is big enough for a twin application? why not run a GT42 or S400?
