using boost to reference load on the motor in this fashion is horrible reference. just because its only getting to 35 psi doesn't mean theres no load, as well as you hitting 55psi in 4th, air is just building up cause theres no were for it to go(low rpm). boost is just a measure of restriction. unless you have 1300hp, that's a pretty steep gear. imo, I would regear to 4.88 and run direct unless its sandy soil, then that a whole another story. ultimately its what you want, and your pocket book can do. the best way it was explained to me, and at the time didn't make much sense, but in order to go faster, you need to go slower

Very good point sir.

Has anyone tried pulling in 4hi 1st gear?

I never have, but plenty around here my parts have. it has eaten more trannys up then I have seen pulling on the low side. also, while it is a much faster gear, its hard to lock the converter up, other wise you just blow through it

Yeah I started thinking about it after I posed the question. I can imagine it being very hard on tranny's.

I use the gear all the time.. I have not had a trans issue yet... its faster then 3rd gear and on a hard the faster wheel speed helps..

Do you even get converter lockup running in 4hi? I feel like the rpm difference would be too great. That is, if your even hitting second gear to engage the TCC.

How far in between 3 low and 4 low is 1 high?[/QUOTE]

on stock gears

3rd low=14.30 final
1st high=11.56
4th low=10.14

with a stock turbo, imo, still to fast even with lock up.

So how are you guys getting lockup in 1st gear on a 6speed? I have an allylocker, would I need something else? 11.5 final would be alot easier to pull off then a 10

I usually see close to 60psi mid track 3rd gear 6 33" sts's not that that really means much. I'm a little scared to try 4th gear. Could be death to rods real quick.

In the next couple seasons when I finally build a motor I wanna try 3.42 or maybe even a higher ratio and keep with 3rd gear

Well I'm trying to hang 4th gear. I don't know the best way to get into it though. Shifting into if seems to bark the charger and then relight. It defuels on the shift. I don't know how to get rid of that. I can try a 4 start unlocked then lock at 75ft. Or I don't know if I should just let it auto lock and start in 4. 3 options to get there and I don't know what would work best. So maybe 1 high would be a better gear

I pulled there and that night It barked hard then relit. The other video on my fb shows me going real good till I broke at the end. I shifted about 200 rpm higher and it didn't bark. I don't know if it was cause it was looser or the rpm raise. But it still defueled bad for a second

Its gonna be tough trying to pull 4th gear consistently with your power level. Sometimes it may work, other times it wont. Also, 4th gear wont take the beating like 3rd will, unless you already have all the billet goodies inside your trans

I don't have any special parts. My truck makes power down low which is why I think it can work fine. Just need to get the best way to get there figured out.
