Anything is possible. IIRC, there was the GTG at Russ's (rcannon) house up that way about 10 years ago.



Did 183/336 today. I shouldn't be able to do this much work or move this quickly at my age. Experience wins out again, I guess.

To put these numbers Ive been posting into perspective, I'm only delivering about half my normal area during peak season. We have 6 drivers in our "loop" while normally we have 3.

The rest of the year, I'll go out with 115-130 stops on a normal 9.25 day. I'll usually deliver between 160-200 pkgs.

The odd thing is my miles are still within 10 or so of what I do the rest of the year (130s-140s right now, 140s-150s rest of year), though.

So Im doing 50% more stops and packages in 1/2 the area. This is the heaviest volume its ever been, thats for sure.

I saw a rig with a trailer, I've never seen that before, is it a pilot program? The trailer was identical to the truck.

No, they have had matching trailers for a while. I think they only get used at times with high volume though. I have only seen them on the road, never at a stop.

Maybe TheBac can fill us in ;)

As Brick said, they are used to shuttle pkgs out to "satellite" trucks out in the country,

used to "store" pkgs for a route that cant fit everything into the one truck (sort of a "two trip" without actually making the second trip),

or the route has one very large delivery (or pickup) stop that wouldnt fit into the truck with all the other stops in it.


We've got a couple of them here. All just depends on the situation they're needed for.


I ended up having a quiet, calm peak season after that first week. The three new guys who helped us in our loop did a phenomenal job -- to the point that they didnt need any help at all after that first week. That is a huge relief when you only have to concentrate on your area, and not have to worry about what the newbies are doing.

We did blow away every single record for volume in our building this year. Considering that peak was shorter than normal this year due to late Thanksgiving, our building was 36,000 stops and 63,000 pkgs over last year (over the whole of peak). Those are insane numbers. It was told us by upper management that Lansing had the highest volume change in the entire Midwest region. We had 155 drivers in the building this year, 85 in our center. I remember when 85 was the entire building. :eek:

GF's son works for UPS. They got notified of a light day the Monday before Christmas,but when they showed up the package count was off by 8,000 pcs.

As for the trailers, before he became a full time driver, he had the mall during peak. They pulled a trailer there, and he drove his personal car there. Used the "DIAD" (prob spelled wrong) and made all of the deliveries and pickups for the mall. After he was finished, he cam home. Made for him a long day as he loaded trucks then did the mall stuff. All hand truck through the mall.

Built our 450 ton hydro last week with 175' of luffer, had to walk with it about 100 yards each setup, first time we have ever walked with that much boom in the air, had to strip off half the counterweight, but the crane did a good job.

Those times when the slightest bump makes you're butt pucker. How long is your average set up time on that size of crane and luffer?

6.5 hrs is not bad. Did you build your own buffer then hook it up, or have an assist crane?

Its funny that they make you strip it down when you need to move it, but I guess the tires would be overloaded. I know I laid out moving an LTM 1300 with almost all of the luffer and full counterweight, took 2 days reading the book to find all of the info, then it said operator had options between x an y main boom angle to even out the axle pressures. Missed the move, but the point was 6' off the ground over a berm where he could not see it while dong the move.

The 450 has 303k lbs of counterweight, no way in heck can we move it on the deck. The luffer was right at 50k lbs and main boom was 50* and luffer was 55* drove like a champ.

Yeah when we go the luffer builds we use a 110 ton grove out as a 50 ton.

It might have been one of the LTM1400's. I think it was close to 300k on the deck also. I don't remember if it was a 6 axle or 7 axle machine. It had over 200' of Luffer in it, and I think the main boom was about 60* with the luffer negative. I remember that it took 2 supervisors to move it because of the obstical between the cab and the point. They also had to carry the pill with a forklift.

More of the same 6L80 stuff. This is probably the biggest consistent failure going on with vehicles 2014-2017 pickups and SUV’s.

Yeah 14 and up new body style trucks. And 15 and up new body style full-size suv’s. Had a 2018 come in other day with 39k on odometer and same failure. Even 6L90’s going through it too. Not as bad though. Done quite a few when it’s been just the converter that goes and doesn’t damage pump. But 6L90 more common to plug cooler(s).

I've been contemplating a zl1 converter for my 6l80, you here or see anything bad about those?
