Weird intermittent shift issues??

ok guys a little more info for what its worth , you guys know how the tranny has what i refer to as cold mode where it will not shift into overdrive? ( not sure of what temp has to be acheived) after it comes out of cold mode is when it shifts funny , like i said im hooking a tech2 up to it tomorow but to me it sounds like maybe a torque converter shutter?

guess i should update my signature, i am from northeastern maryland, it was 33 degrees this morning on the way to work. engine got warm before tranny did and when it finally got out of ( cold mode ) and would shift into od is when it shifted funny

Yes does it in TH mode after it warms up past cold mode

Are you sure it's a shift or TC lock up you're experiencing. Hook up the Tech II and log or monitor the transmission. This is the only way you're goin to find out what's going on other wise you're just guessing at this point.

Thanks mackin I will inform you all tomorrow night when the tech2 is hooked to it, maybe I am feeling lockup? In normal mode ( meaning warmed up and not in tow haul) when does the converter lock?

Light throttle, lockup occurs in 5th around 50 mph in most operating systems. Get after the throttle a bit and it locks in 4th provided slip rpm isn't to high. Some operating systems will lock in 2nd in WOT shift mode in normal and tow haul.

Just took it for a ride when it hits 50 it locks up smooth every time , when it shifts at around 45mph it shakes

yep tomorrow night my buddy will hook the tech2 up, im guessing it will be quite obvious on the scanner what is wrong?

Watch and see what gear changes cause the shudder. Reset the taps and then retest. Make sure all of this is done with a warm transmission. Be a good idea to change the spin on filter also.

That sounds like you may have a clutch wear problem. How many miles are on the tranny?

I can make my stock one with 386500 miles on it do it and will not set a single code. So it can do it and not set codes.

just wanted to update never got around to scanning the truck actually taking it tonight as my friend wasn't able to last Tuesday anyhow wtf.... I drove the truck this morning and its shifting fine... I don't friggin get it I cant make it shift weird or shutter or anything. don't get me wrong im happy but im also like wth is going on? I will say this last Wednesday I changed the fuel filter and it still shifted funny all the way to this morning could the fuel filter have been the issue or if it was clogging it would have fixed the issue immediately after replacing?
