Hey duramax brothers. So ive been looking at turbo upgrades and im not sure if i want a built stock turbo. Port&polish with a wicked wheel and a ten vain with the re-worked fingers. Lower hp and (for me)capped hp. Im looking at the danville 68 stg2r. Watched the vids and read the reviews. I like it and think its a sound platform but.... i live in cali. Its to loud and would draw to much attention. I DD my truck and take family out to the desert. (Im fine with being a fighter pilot but i dont want to hear the b!tch!n9!!!!) I dont have a trailer yet but plan on one soon and i trail my dmax hard. I know its not a race truck but it is my family desert machine. Its like the millennium falcon! Its ugly and stays under the radar but can make the kessel run in twelve parsecs!(im Han and my wife is chewy)lol Sorry. Ive got the manifolds and up pipes and supporting mods for it. just having a hard time choosing. Its an lly CC/LB 4x4. Im not looking for monster hp( stock fueling and ill add lift pump)and it will never see the track just good old fashion freeway miles and desert abuse.

Well I can tell you my modded lly charger is just as loud as a Danville stg2r. Having heard both back to back and ridden in both.

i did a bunch to make mine in-cab quiet(er), but outside it is still very loud. I don't know what it would take or if it's even possible to quiet it outside. I have the intake resonator installed, a 4" mbrp exhaust with muffler, and resonator installed right after the Exhaust turns by the pass side footwell. Short of a very restrictive muffler, I don't know.

They are quite if you twin them....

Mine doesn't bother me until I roll the windows down. I took a vid while driving in a tunnel and didn't know if you could hear me talking it was so loud.

Correct, Not yet. Waiting to build up some cash for it. Im not worried about the trans yet. Alot of the bigger hp items ive scored will sit on the shelf till the trans is built. Trying to do my research now so i know what basket to put all my eggs in.

Hmmm from what ive been reading and watching the last few weeks tells me what ever way i go the veins make either turbo loud. Would any recommend staying with stock fingers or is it a drastic change to aftermarket? Any other turbos i should look at? Im not willing to twin and i dont want huge hp and torque. Thats why i was thinking reworked stock or a 66-68mm charger. I want to keep my vvt so i can use turbo brake tuning.

Thanks for the replys they do help.

There is no such thing as stock fingers. Fingers makes the high flow vanes, the 10 blade turbine is what gives it a lot of whistle on the stock charger. Here's a comparison from the fingers vanes to stock vanes.

Not trying to piss farther. But i thought they are called finger vanes and and fingers(John) is a manufacturer of aftermarket vanes. Just a coincidence his name was the same? Any who, yeah ive read that about the 10 blade turbine. Just thought the vanes made it louder on top of the ten blade?

Op what truck do you have? I believe the 3794 was having issues with lmms and over boost or underboost codes I don't remember which one. The modded lly chargers have great potnential. Mark has a dyno graph on his site hitting 689hp with one. I love mine, I rode in another truck with marks stg2r on stock fuel and they are very similar and sound dam near identical. My tct wheel has a much louder compressor whistle than the stg2r did. The stg2r will have the ability to make more power with a built motor but I figured once my motor blows I will just twin over my modded stocker.

Nice. I have a 04.5 lly. Now what costs did you see? Did you assemble it yourself or was it an off the shelf deal? You know those arent bad numbers for stock. Wonder if its stock fuel?Thats really where i want to be (little less close to 625hp) the only thing id complain about is my face hurting from the sh!t eating grin! Ill check out the 3794. The only reason im looking a the stg2r, is it can make more hp if i wanted to down the road and cost. I can imagine reworked stock is close or same price as stg2r.

Thaks for clearing up the finger's vanes thing. I wouldnt want to sound like EFIlivewire....

You know I don't have much cost involved at all. 1trikhd (Russ) got a bunch of guys together and they all pitched in towards the turbo for my wedding gift. Got married almost 6 months ago. Minerigger (Brock) did all the port work and assembling as his part of the gift. I believe I got about $600 from all the guys which covered the tct wheel and balancing. I probably had $7-800 of my own money tied up into it. I also did my profab delete pipe and tow flows at the same time.

My time in the sig was with vane positioning too tight. I had them opened up a little more and truck pulls way harder on top. Haven't had a chance to get to the track after that.

Also that 689 on the modded lly was with more fuel forsure.

Yeah looking at the cost of a built stock its the same to buy an off the shelf turbo. So the 3794 has two models the stage 1 is nice and a decent price. The only thing that sucks is the descriptions on them are all the same and some dont have any.... what about the tct stg2r reman? Look am i just splitting frog hairs or is their really a big difference i like the 65/66 mill chargers 68 would be really nice but its like i cant find discriptions or reviews on any of them for a lly. I would think they would be out there its an elleven year old truck.

This is the same as my turbo if u select the tct and high flow vanes. After you send your core In your looking at $1700. Iirc lly turbo is 63.5mm. Go through the pics on that link and you can see his dyno graph at 689. I figured the modded stocker will be more than enough to blow my motor so when I build it it would be a great charger to twin over.
http://www.danvilleperformance.com/bmw-2-5-stage-2-reman/

The 3794 with high flow vanes is at $2250 on his site. So after shipping your core back it would be about $500 difference between the 2. I have some videos of mine if you want

Just my opinion, a 68r will hit 625hp on stock fuel with very healthy injectors and cp3 (lbz/lmm) not sure if stock lly cp3 and fpr can make pressure neccesary for that HP. I had this exact conversation with Mark back over the summer. He showed me some dyno graphs illustrating the difference between high/good rail pressure vs low rail with a weak/worn cp3. That was on lmm truck tho, I know the lb7/lly trucks are far more forgiving with lower rail pressure.

My lmm was running around 25.5-26k, unfortunately I burned a hole in piston #6 before I could install the 12mm cp3 and get the higher rail pressure.

Yes my truck has very hard time keeping rail. Mine dips down to 21k and pulse drops hard from 3300uS down to 2700uS to try and build rail back up.

Well more then likely my cp3 and injectors are tired. Truck has 235k and im not sure when they were/or if done. Like I mentioned thoe im willing to do a lift pump and thats it for the fuel system. Until something goes out.(knock on wood) maybe 625 isnt in my future but mid 5's? I guess it depends on tuning. Maybe a built stock is really what i need? Now can you run one of the other turbos with stock fueling and get a little more dependability? I know it wont hit as hard but i dont want to worry about burning pistons. I guess thats all in the tuning. D@mn!t know I really don't know what I want.
