Hey guys so this is off topic.

My daughter, 17 months old was showing signs of ear infection so wife made her a dr appointment for following day because she's had them before and it gets bad. Well that night Taelyn, my daughter, would wake up just long enough to throw up and fall back asleep this happened 5/6 times throughout the night.

The following morning ~ 8am wife is washing dishes and hears Taelyn gargling looks over and she's limp on the floor having a seizure. Wife calls 911 and my mom they show up about the same time and Taelyns acting fine at this point. Paramedics say that she's good enough for wife to take her to dr as the appoitment was close anyways. They get to dr office and while in waiting room Taelyn has another seizure dr brings them In the back and paramedics show up take her to emergency room.

After a few more seizures, Blood Tests and x-rays they transpher her to wolfsons. That's where she is now having tests done and they can't figure out what's wrong or why she's having the seizures. Thankfully she is seeming to be doing better and is talkitive/playing but still more tests to do and Drs say they are keeping them there for a few more days.

Has anyone experienced this with their kids? Being 8k miles away it's a shitty feeling seeing your little girl wrapped up in a EKG getup. Just looking to see if anyone's experienced this with their kids. -John

One of my friends had something like this and it took them until he was 12 to figure it out. Forget what kind of neurosurgery he had at that point.

Our prayers go out to you bud. Hope for a speedy recovery.

I had epilepsy as kid growing up and had a "grand maul seizure" at age 10. Scared the shit outta me as for some odd reason my eyes were open and I could see everything that was happening but could do a thing to stop it. After 5 min it stopped but the entire right side of my body was paralyzed. Thankfully it wore off after 6 hrs but after numerous catscan, mri, ekg the found on the left side of the brain that had a gap bigger than normal. I guess when the electrical signals in the brain were trying to fire they didn't make it across and I basically had a short circuit. I got put on some pills for 7 years and finally grew out of it.

You'll probably have alot of medical tests coming up so just try your best and pray. After experiencing it and now having kids it's literally one of my worst fears as not being able to do anything for them in those situations.

Prayers go out fr your little girl and your family. Keep your head up

did she have a fever? seizures are common in infants that are sick. God forbid it happens again make sure your wife clears her airway after the seizure is over.

Sad to hear about your daughter, just one suggestion, remove as much sugar namely high fructose corn syrup from the food she consumes. Don't be surprised how much of the food we consume nowadays has high fructose corn syrup in it, read the labels.....

Thanks guys it means a lot

She didn't have a fever and still has yet to have one. The medical staff is kind of in awe about it. They think she may have caught the flu which brought on the seizures. All the tests that have been done nothing came back abnormal. Yes food is questions now a days and she lives off chicken nuggets and French fries. She really isn't into much sugar at all she can't drink most juices Bc the acidity so mainly drinks pear juice and water. But I told the doctors I'd like to look into different treatments for the seizures than just prescriptions after reading all the side effects. :spit:

It's not that uncommon for young children to have seizures, brain is still developing and growing. Hopefully it will be a short lived issue and she can return to normal life quickly, she will be in our prayers. Hang tough dad, the big mans got your back, it will all be ok...

As luck? would have it, my baby boy (now 2yo) has a sensitivity/allergy to corn products with the most reaction to HFCS. He breaks out right away when he has much of it. So yeah, we've done the no corn products thing since he was about 4mths old. Its in just about every processed food except organic stuff. Its in diapers & clothes too.

on the seizures, I know there's much worse things a child can go thru but seizures freak me out! Thank God our lil guy hasn't had any.

OP I pray they figure something out quick & that its no big deal!

Well she was released yesterday around mid day. she was at a specialized childrens hospital and had numerous test done. They were unable to find the cause or reason it started. shes having difficulty standing up and walking around from swelling after her lumbar puncture but its getting better thankfully. Unfortunitly the Drs. have put her on anti seizure medications for the next two years! That's crazy to me and I hate the idea of her being on meds especially for that length of time.. ive tried expressing my concern and asking if they do a program that would test after a few months but I don't have a PHD.. Thankfully shes home and playing and Thank all of you for the prayers and Thoughts on this I am eternally thankful  -John

The lowest dose of Keppra available 2x daily and diastat acudial when needed. I just hate medications in general and think the side effects usually out way the good but we will see.

DefiantArms, what did the Dr's prescribe phenobarbital.?

My little rescue dog is on pheno, she had seizers a lot, her pheno levels are extremely low, but I'm pretty sure that medicine has fried her brain (along with the seizures), hard to tell how many she had until she was saved from that hording case.

OP, good luck, if it was something serious I'm sure they would have found something right away. My younger brother had a hand full when he was a baby, and same as your daughter they found nothing, he did not get put on any meds because my mom was a broke deadbeat and couldn't afford it and also didn't want him on them. He had one more after the doctor visit and stay and never had another since.

I have a friend whose son was having seizures. Same as you they would take him to the hospital and have all the tests run and they always came back clean. They finally got hooked up with a fresh doctor and right away he said that the boy was low on electrolytes and to give home Gatorade. It fixed him right up and hasn't had a seizure since. The reason the tests would never show him being low is the first thing they would do at the hospital is hook him to an iv and pump him up with fluids which of course made him better. It took a different doctor to put it al together. Not saying that's the cause with your daughter but worth looking into as his son isn't on any medication at all now.
