Yeah, with a set of Carrillos in your hands you can tell they are machined everywhere just like a billet rod - but you will have a hard time seeing any milling marks on them. Some other billets you see a lot of the machining marks on - they almost look glass beaded and not shot peened.

Shot peened according to the website.

I didn't say I cared about the visible machine marks, or even who's rods I was talking about. I was just explaining to WolfLLY that Carrillos were fully machined.

I know Carrillos are, I was talking about some billet rods I have seen looking like that are not.

I wonder how close the weights are since they are not fully finished machined? Or would they still be pretty close?

It's been hit and miss but out of the last 3 set's done, 1 set balanced 'ok'
the 2nd set was a little more difficult and sadly my personal set being balanced with my compstar right now had one that is 30+ grams heavier then the rest and is being one of the worst to balance.

Granted you get what you pay for I'm sure that the extra money spent on the comp rods would make up for the money spent at balance.

I personally think these rods will hold 1000+hp. and Wagler didn't seem to have a lot of doubts with that. Although being shown as a 800hp rod. The compstar is rated at the 800hp level but seems to be a lot better than the factory crank shaft. I don't for see Callies putting out a product that would be inferior to the factory that has held over 1000hp builds with the common breaking here and there in everyday trucks not even from power.

I guess I will see both their strengths as soon as mine is finished at the machine shop with balance.

150% overs with dual pumps
modified vgt and a 485 5blade twins

should be a good test.

Your pistons are going to give up. I would wager you don’t get 10,000 miles on it before a failure. The compounds wreak havoc on cast pistons other than the Fingers oval bowl design. I’m just telling you from experience if you don’t won’t to pull it and rebuild in the near future re-examine your build.

That would be a great sales pitch if you worked for an aftermarket piston manufacturer, but I think I’ll stick with this budget build and years of seeing trucks still running fine with stock Deliped lb7 pistons making mild to wild 1500hp and are still running. Good thing wagler deliped and cut the valve reliefs in them for me as well... I’ll take my “gamble” ;)

You have 1500 Horsepower engines with de-lipped LB7 pistons?? Wow. You must have at least a dozen lucky rabbits foots.

I’m not saying you don’t. But dam that’s impressive, and quite the gamble.

You are talking single turbo. When you run compounds they just won’t hold up as well from my experiences.

They dictate boost number which effects cylinder pressures and effect torque numbers as well. It really doesn’t matter to me what you do since it’s not my money. I offered what I thought was friendly advice.

Yep turbos dictate pistons like they dictate rods. Where the power hits and fueling and spoil and pulse width. Everything. At least that’s what I understand from my readings

There is just an amazing amount of difference between popping a couple good numbers on the Dyno and laying it down frequently on the street or strip.

I like this^^^^^ I personally prefer the peace of mind of jumping in my truck knowing it’s built right rather then being on the ragged edge all the time.

Fellas, just let it roll. No matter how you do anything it'll be a learning experience. No sense in arguing over something we already know. You can have the perfect build and your crank can still fail at any time lol..... Just saying.
