I just bought a tdi a week ago. You should read some of the craziness in the tdiclub forum. 4000+ posts since this whole fiasco went viral in the media. Funny thing is half the ppl in the tdi forum are tree huggers and half are performance guys. Makes for an interesting read. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Already a local gm dealer (brothers chevrolet) is selling a diesel cruze at a discounted price. Wonder why??? Because two days before this went public it was retail price because i was gonna go look at it. Odd. Oh well, in the meantime a full turbo back delete exhaust and tuning is going on my tdi.

I sense it will sell a couple cruze diesels but not a ton. The cars are still pretty different. For one the cruze doesn't offer a manual with the diesel. Then there's the fact it's a GM product. At the end of the day a lot of people buy cars because they like them. The ones that like the VW styling, features, design, etc are not likely to switch. Not to mention the overall reputation the TDI has built up for reliability (yeah every model has its quirks, but overall they do run forever)

I think the people that will buy something else and are pissed about this are the most vocal group. Not the majority, just the loudest. The ones that don't care you will never hear anything from because they don't care. Most people don't, heck there's enough people that like VW even more now lol.

I bet sales of the Cruze will go down, at first... The general scared public I could see associating diesel cars as a whole being a problem. Only until independent testing of other diesel cars and a "Facebook sharable" article is released verifying (hopefully) those cars are clean, will it drive their sales up.

Very true on the Facebook part, I think media in general has made people astonishingly dumb yet made them think they know everything.

I have been looking at buying a 2015 tdi Passat lol and even with all this I would still buy a VW. They are amazing little cars, fun to drive, extremely nice inside and out and run for ever. Such a shame damn EPA ruins all the fun.

I just bought a 2015 Passat TDI a few months ago and have been nothing but impressed so far. I could care less about this whole fiasco really.
My only worry is that since I am still under warranty and VW still owes me a couple services at 20k and 30k miles, I imagine that the next time I visit the dealer they will re-flash my ECM once they come to a resolution for this issue. I wonder how that will affect my fuel economy. I guess if it has that big of a negative effect on the fuel economy I will be purchasing tuning in the near future.

Since I work at a Colorado diesel emissions place I have been tagged in this picture on Facebook about fifteen times already haha. Amazing how social media spreads stuff so quick.

They are nice little cars so much room on the inside! Test drove a white one with tan interior so comfortable and super responsive I was expecting it to be slow and just not fun to drive but it was really nice and would make a perfect daily!

The funny thing is the older high mileage TDI's with the vacuum operates EGR's will literally black out our shop if their intake is clogged up with enough carbon.

Since it has SCR, mileage may stay decent but DEF usage may climb.

TDIs are a blast to drive, huge torque from 1700 up. They don't win drag races but in daily traffic they are tons of fun.

Reading the comments around the Web, actual VW owners still seem fairly supportive overall and wouldn't change brands.

I really doubt the diesel cruze will be around much longer. Their diesel sales are somthing like 11% of total cruze sales. Iirc there is no diesel option for 2017.

Nope. The diesel cruze is NOT going anywhere.

The 2.0 is going to stick around through 2016 model year, then a new 1.6 diesel for 2017 model year. The new 1.6 is going to be all aluminum.
