Up pipe crack on 2011 LML

Hello, I have a 2011 LML. 120+k miles. Live in Ohio. Cold winters. prior to me owning truck it has had DPF delete and exhaust, EFI live tune(autocal) and I'm pretty sure a EGR delete and not just a blocker plate. The plate with the bracket mount coming off at a 90degree angle is cracked and I'm 99% positive the crack on the pipe is in the center of the baffle part just below the EGR.
I'm assuming the heat and vibration or something has caused that bracket mount to snap.
I Have the typical compressed air blowing noise coming from the passenger side under the dash. No whistle in turbo, slight loss of power.

My question is. A new Up pipe is obvious. How do I know if it's a stock up pipe. What kind of new pipe should I get? With the EGR plate being cracked what should I do in regards to that. Am I looking at a new EGR kit and up pipe. What are the chances of this occurring again and anything else to prevent it?

I plan on fixing this myself. I'm no mechanic but I've always fixed my own vehicles and this is my first diesel. Any tips and warning are appreciated.

Pretty typical of those types of deletes. I always cut the riser and weld a plate over it because I've had too many crack just like that.

The problem is the plate they show is not supported properly. The best way to support them is with multiple mounting locations.

I think welding it shut is the best answer if you're sure you'll never need the EGR again.

We offer the stock up pipe welded shut on an exchange program, and we also offer higher flowing up pipes with or without the EGR riser.

As far as tips...lubricate all the bolts days in advance. Have plenty of Band-Aids handy, and don't have any children around while you're working. Unless you don't mind them learning a few bad words. LOL!

How hard is it to pull the pipe or how long should I be expecting to work on this.

If you've never done one before it will probably take most, if not the entire day.

Even the most experienced mechanic is probably going to take an hour or 2 to do this on an LML. More if the egr hadn't already been deleted.

Lol so true rick! I wish I would have bought your single up pipe gasket going into turbo with my tow flows. That was a pita!

this is what im looking at. notice its black in the middle. im guessing the crack is right there in the center. havent gotten supper close to see exactly where its coming from. was in a rush the other day and al i did was look to see what my issue was. saw the mount was cracked and saw the pipe was black and i knew my issue was the up pipe. like i said, im new to diesels.

It's so easy to have a second mount on that. I wish more people would speak up on these crappy parts. That would save others a hole lot of BS.

I don't usually post detailed pictures of our stuff because of some people's R&D ( rob & duplicate ) practices, but here is what ours looks like. As you can see there are 2 separate mounting locations with plenty of support.

I used ricks piece above on my Lml before I put compounds on and it worked great !, and have used his on other trucks as well no issues at all .

I still don't fully understand the EGR and wether or not I have the delete or just the blocker plate. I see people cut out the riser, that's what that plate is attached too and there is that sensor wire. Is cutting the riser out or getting an LB7 up pipe just an option on top of an EGR delete? I understand the concept of exhaust gas recirculating. By a delete or blocker your just now using clean air? What's the use of the Up pipe? Can someone briefly explain this?

There is an uppipe that feeds the turbo exhaust from each side of the motor. That spins the turbo and then comes out of the exhaust pipe.

From the picture you posted, you have a full delete. Your egr system is completely missing. Just cap off your up pipe where it is cracked. Either un plug the sensor or leave it plugged in and zip tie it up out of the way. Good luck

Thank you! Yes it is completely split in half at the center of the bellow? I stuck a knife in it to see how big the crack was. I'm just gonna cut the riser off so I don't have to deal with the remaining junk. Just more room for problems. I'm contemplating just getting an LB7 pipe

For the 200 you'll spend on a lb7 pipe just buy tow flows from Rick. If they are still on sale I got mine for $445..

Just cap yours. Got a welder friend? Throw him a few bucks and have yours welded up.

She's fixed. I'll post pictures later when I'm on my computer. I cut the riser off. Left a good inch or more on the riser and welded a plate on there. Planning on just getting a new one sometime soon, I'd like to get a new down pipe. I have an aftermarket exhaust from this point back.
Took about 5 hours. Not bad for first time. Think I can do this in about 2 hours next go around. All the bolts came out fine. Coolant pipe was in the way of the one but I pushed it out of the way.

I have a concern though. I don't hear my turbo really whistling as much as it was or should be when i accelerate slow. Only really hear the turbo when I give it a handful of throttle and then the turbo opens up. I also here a slight rattle? Sometimes when letting off the gas. Could this be coming from the turbo? I definitely have power back though. I'm certain the pipes were hooked back up fine. I took off the resonator during this project and air filter pipe that the only other things I messed with. Would like to get inter cooler pipes later and get rid of the resonator and grid heater etc..
