This sound showed up emmediately at start-up after rebuilding the Motor. The Motor runs extremely smooth with plenty of power, thanks to twin everything. lol. Anyway I put in Carrillo rods and new HP Crank and Rod bearings on the rotating assembly, bolted down with ARP Main Studs. I used Royal Purple Assembly Lube on everything. When truck starts cold the sound is more noticeable up untill there is oil pressure. During rebuild I adjusted Valve lash, but maybe I screwed up. Have a listen to the video and let me know what you guys think. Any opinion is welcome. Thanks.

Balace rates are all within spec. Number 3 injector is a little on the high side arround 4, I have tried tried unplugging each injector one at a time but still no difference. I had the same injectors in the truck before I rebuilt, and they worked fine. The only difference this time is a new Block and Crank, because I spun the Harmonic Balancer 1/4 turn on the Crank and destroyed all bearings front to back.

The engine hot or cold when the video was made? What oil is in there now? On a side note I love the way the twin-turbo kit looks with the battery and coolant in place. Very nice, which kit it that?

Mine does it hot or cold but it seams to make a little more noise untill the oil gets pumped up when 1st started for about a second or 2

The Rail Pressure is good, I've even increased pressure at Idle using EFI and you can here the change in sound in the Injectors but makes no difference to the sound in question. The engine was hot when the video was taken. The sound is slightly worse when starting engine cold right up till there is oil pressure. I am running Syn-X 15W40 Full Synthetic with a Lucas Engine Break-in Oil Additive.

The twin turbo is all custom, no kit involved. The surge tank is off a cobalt and fits ferfectly with a mount on the negative terminal of the battery. And the battery tray had to be turned 90 degrees.

Almost sounds like a louder version of the infamous type-writer sound the engines can make. Not to point finger towards lucas oil additives, but I would stay away from the stuff. I've read studies of how it can cause the oil to foam worst than normal and hold air easier. <- Which causes the type-writer sound in the first place iirc.

I'd almost advise you to dump the oil and try Shell Rotella (I haven't personally used it, but others swear by it doesn't tick). I personally used Amsoil with my old engine and it never had the type-writer click like the factory oil or Royal Purple did. I will however, be going Rotella after my build since Amsoil is a little expensive for my tastes now.

Thanks for the advise, I was wondering if oil might play an issue. Last time I rebuit the engine I had some different oil, can't remember what, but it didn't do this.

I would not use syn oil on a fresh motor build. Also what crank is in the motor now what balancer and flywheel was used was the motor balanced?

The Crank and Block is from an LLY, and the Balancer and Flywheel are from the same crank. I did not reuse the Balancer and Flywheel from the original Crank. I Changed oil and put in Shell Rotella but no difference. I am going to take off the Valve covers hopefully this weekend and check Valvetrain.

Ahh man, I'm sorry the oil didn't work for you. Knowing me, I'd do what you're doing and head for the heads, then start a tear down and check bearings if I didn't find the problem in the heads.
