Recently built engine. After break in I opened the truck on up and smoked the original s463 that had came with the kit a year ago. So I figured ok it was tired after over a year of hard work. So I purchased a new s468 and installed and I smoked it on the test drive as well. Pulled it off and pulled it apart and it smoked the collar, shaft and radial bearings. Looks like definate lack of oil

The oil supply is coming from the passenger side front oil galley. I'm getting 58 psi straight out of the block with a mechanical gauge. I hook the -4 line back up and connect mechanical gauge to the turbo end of the line and when I start the truck it takes maybe 5 seconds to make 58 psi. Everyone says the -4 line is plenty. But when you pull the line off it only has a weak stream coming out https://vimeo.com/149588379

I guess -6 line is the next step. I just don't understand why I'm
Having failures now after the -4 line has proven to work.

I wouldn't ever run a -4 oil feed on an s400. I always do -6.

But regardless, you should have a small fire hose of oil coming from the -4 line. I'd assume the line has or has been kinked and it is severely restricted or there is some kind of blockage in the line. Have you tried any other lines?

Haven't tried any other line yet. Going to get a -6 line coming tomorrow and try that. Luckily when I heard the compressor scratch I was able to putt back to shop and had no visible damage to the covers or wheels. Gunna try the new line and see if that helps

400 series chargers can use a 6 an line without issue. 300 series will sometimes have a drain issue because the oil backs up in the turbo and can't get out fast enough.

I blew shop air thru both ends of the line. Didn't sound different either way I blew thru it. Going to just try a new line. Doesn't make sense why it takes so long to build oil pressure at the other end of the line unless there is some sort of internal restriction

You could still have restriction in flow and yet build pressure fine dead headed.
FWIW I ran a -4 line off the same place for my S464 for over 100000 miles no issues. Never checked to see how much flow came out of it though. That doesn't look right though. If it doesn't squirt out with the -6 line you may have a bigger problem or need to grab oil from elsewhere.

I know an open -4 line will half fill a water bottle in about one second of idle time. I checked mine earlier this year and basically as soon as the truck started I shut it off and the bottle had 8 Oz in it.

you should get a solid hose of oil coming out of an open line.

its not enough at all, thats what i watched. mine is one heck of a stream coming out of the end.

That's the answer I was looking for. I've never pulled a line off to check before this so I had no clue. But in my opinion it was weak too lol

If I read that right is PS #1 main galley plug right?

Oil has to fill #1 main and cam bearing before it get to the turbo supply line.. It's essentially last in line

shouldn't matter, pretty much everyone supplies atmos from that location.

he was saying that with the gauge hooked up to the block it goes to 58psi instantly, but with the -4 line on the block with the gauge at the end it is very slow to build to 58psi.

Getting a new 3/8" line made, and I'm going to grab oil from the oil filter housing then to turbo, that way it's getting fresh filtered oil, more supply and quicker to get oil

Could pull it off DS #2 main journal plug... Be tight fitting though
I hooked my mechanical oil guage there.. Turbo comes off #1

Capt understood on commmon oil supply pick ups

having had 3 gauges on my truck, pre-filter, OEM and #2 main.. I can tell you #2 has the slowest response and pre filter the fastest response... Logic would say PS #1 would be even slower then #2 especially on cold starts
