you saw mine... i drove through the clutches and TC and didnt limp... some times it would other times it wouldnt. on my stocker.

Adam, your clutches were not slipping, or it would have limped at that time. It senses input and output shaft speed and if they arent at the correct ratio it will limp you period. AFAIK the tc is the only part that can slip without throwing you in limp mode.

My C1's looked brand new (still had lettering on them) 150k of diesel pilot's V6.

Not true, mine were apparently slipping quite a bit and it didn't limp until it was damn near dead. Who knows how long my clutches were fried...I put 160K on an SCIII it ended about like this truck is now. I drove it on a 340 mile round trip one day, and it wouldn't move the next. cleared codes and changed the spin on, then it would be fine...good enough to race my NDNs PSD, beat it and drag it back since his tranny let go. I drove okay, but would throw codes here and there. Then I drove it into my drive way one night and 30min later it would barely back up. I tried to drive back in with no luck. I pushed the truck back into the driveway and left it there. The next day I backed it onto my flatbed and pulled it to the shop I use with my wife's truck. I thought I would have to push it off....the damn thing drove off the trailer like it was new. I took it for a spin, no problems...Pulled it into the shop, let it sit a while, fired it up and no go... Pulled the trans took it home and tore it down...c1-c2-c3 clutches fried...c4s damaged... Next time I think it's f'd up, I'm going with my gut and tearing it down...

Sorry for the long post, but I think some can use this info....

i cant understand someone with smoked clutches that hasnt limped the alli. when mine died, third gear was like neutral, i would have to limp it into 2nd to get to work. no joke, for a week before we pulled the trans i limped the truck 4times a day just to get to work. safe to say mine was limped more than 100 times.

and my c2's were the nastiest looking clutches ive ever seen  and in the words of my builder, "reuter, youre hard on sh!t. when i did your valvebody the smell made me wanna puke!!" i didnt know the PPE was that intense :D

so are you still driving it?

No, it hasn't moved since the end of december. I tried a new nsbu but it didn't do anything. I lifted the rear tires off the ground to see if they would spin and it works in all the gears then and shifts normally but it obviously slips when you put in back down on the ground.

Anytime the ratio's are wrong the tcm will limp you, period! There is an allowed amount of slip before it limps you (like a few percent IIRC) and over 160k miles that can do a lot of damage I suspect. But I assure you, you were not spinning and slipping the hell out of the clutches or it would limp you right then and there. You must have drove around in hydraulic default.

You didn't happen to drop thepan and see if the filter fell out, did you?

I dropped the pan and the filter didn't fall. Fluid had a lot of material in it and it smelled pretty burnt. Im not gonna change the filters to see if they were plugged though cuz its going to get tore apart in a month and half or so either way.
