Can I get specs on your trailer and would you mind saying the price? Did it come with 17.5's or did you add them? I would love that trailer.
this is the trailer that i got..
http://www.kaufmantrailers.com/heav...eavy-Duty-Gooseneck-Trailer---DELUXE-p19.html
26+4 with 5' pop-up ramps and a pop-up dove-tail with the 8k 17.5 rims and tires and spare tire.. 7200.00 cash with a 19,000lb GVWR
i should have asked for 21,000lb GVWR to cover fully load axels and 5,000 pin weight i average 5500lb pin weight and a 40/60 weight split between pin and trailer
now depending what you plan on doing with it weekend hauling sled/drag/ trail rig or what i do i averge 9,000lb with max of 12,000lb loads for ~2000 miles a week.. an identical trailer would be fine for a weekend toy hauler hauling like i do i would ask for them to do the following that i posted at the end of this post...
things i learned..
sealed LED lights and harness are std with this its a 6 wire setup...with a 7 flat plug.. i would get a 7 wire to run aux lights etc..
the 8k axles are basicly Light duty 8,000lb hybrid libert axles..1/2"(std is 1/4") wall 7k tube with 8k bearings 25580/02475 vs 7k is 25580/14125A and 12x2 drum brakes which is standard 7k brake std 8k is 12 1/4 x 3 3/8"
coupler since my truck the ball is 31" high when loaded then neck is fully extended... vs avg truck runs 36-38" ball height..
it ripped the bottom of the neck... kaufmen cut it off lowered it and added guessets to it.. depending on where you ball is you might or might not need it..
i had an issuse with the subframe for the running gear it started to rip the I beam.. they plated then bottom of the I beam with 3/8"x5 the entire deck lenght.. and fish plated all 4 corners where the sub frame meets..
i got all that work for free at cost of fuel and hotel for 2 nights in lexington NC to me
i have put ~65,000 miles on the trailer..( i took delivery march 19 2012 10 days after i ordered it) 90% of its life has had has a load of some sort on it...
the two thing i dont like is the 12x2 brakes i get ~45-55k of life out of them.. or 5-6 months everything else is setup for ~150k service life
and repacking wheel bearings every 10k or every oil change which when running is every 5-6 weeks..
would i buy again.. yes
i would spesify 8k dexter oil bath axles. or in your case 7200lb oil bath dexter( 8k bearings and 12 1/4x 2 1/2" brakes) for a weekend hauler with either 16s to 17.5s it would give you more brakings at a min...
7 wire harness with aux LED flood lights on the headache rack
have the pop-up ramps with fold flat capable (not wedge ramps) 40" bars with no springs.. that way i could ahve a back stop with the dove tail is up flate and fold the ramps down out of the wind (1-2mpg difference) when i dont need them...
chain box that encoumpus the entire jack.. up to the middle bar on the head board with smaller expanded metal, 5/16" chain links like to get wedge in the holes while going down the road, on the bottom..
i put 8 20' 5/16 chains 10 5/16-3/8s binders 3' 2x2x.250 cheater pipe, the strapes for the ramps when folded flat and chain protectors... im out of room in a hurry..
the trailer weighed 5800lb when i stated its about 6400lb now with the plate and coupler gussets..
with 17.5s there is NO sway, the 215/75/17.5 are a 4600lb 16ply tire that runs 125psi.. i have accidently drug them over things loaded that will ripped the sideway of a 16 or 17LT/trailer tire.. im expecting to have to put new tires on it late summer early fall... as ~2,000 miles a week thats a another 80k on the trailer...
that answer all your questions?
this is what i got on now some round stock goign to cory steel in chicago tomorrow morning
