Truck stops moving? P0700 code?

Hey everyone,

To start off with, I drive a 2006 LBZ compound turbo 2500. The motor and transmission were just both rebuilt and have been running fine until yesterday.

Yesterday when I was driving down the road the truck started acting weird like I was giving it gas and it was not wanting to move. Just to make sure I didn't break anything I had a friend tow me home that day.

The next day I started the truck to see if everything was fine and when I put it in drive it goes about 2-3 feet and then everything locks up, like it feels like I am holding the breaks but I am not. Reverse works fine and doesn't have a problem, it is only drive.

It is throwing a P0700 code but that is all I could get off of it, any idea what this could be? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

What are you using to read codes? There should be more than just P0700.

If the engine is revving up but the truck isn't moving it sounds like something has gone south in the transmission. Who built it and with what converter?

so it doesnt move at all when you let off the brake or just a little bit?

If I put it in drive it'll move for about 2-3ft and then it will just stop. If I hit the gas the engine will rev up but the truck won't go anywhere, almost as if it is in park.

What are you using to read codes? There should be more than just P0700.

I'm using my Edge CTS monitor to read the code and that is the only code that has came up.

I purchased the PPE stage 5 kit online and had a friend install the parts, the truck already have a triple disc converter when I purchased it. The trans has about 6,000 miles on it, 6500 max and has been great untill now.

You check the fluid? This friend, how much does he know? He own a shop?

When the truck originally started leaking fluid it wasn't like it was puking fluid or anything, it was just leaking a few drops, nothing bad at all and there was no difference in the fluid level, wasn't enough to see that any leaked.

He is just a friend that is a mechanic, we bought the PPE booklet on how to install it and everything was fine up untill now, but as far as certifications and what not he's not a certified trans builder and it was done in his garage lol.

sounds like a tie up (more cluthes applied then there should be).

It could be a tie up, bearing installed upside down has trashed a hard part, etc. Hard to say without pulling the trans or seeing more codes. If it moves slightly then it's not a broken input or output shaft.

Change the filters, check the fluid level, and then you should get ahold of EFILive or a tech2 and see what other codes are in there, and if a tech2 look at the various speed sensor readings as you try to go.

Disconnect the trans wiring harness at the plug on the rear passenger side, it should it go into hydraulic default which should let you go forward in 3rd gear only if there isn't a mechanical or major hydraulic issue inside the trans.

When you pull the trans pan look for metal... if it doesn't go forwards in hydraulic default then it looks like you'll have to pull the trans and see what's going on inside.

Well ran into an even bigger problem, the code is gone but the problem still exists, I took two videos to show you guys, inside and outside the truck, uploading them on YouTube and will post them once they are done. Thanks for the help so far all, I appreciate it.

P0700 is just a generic code that tells the ecm to turn the check engine light on and that there is a problem in the trans. there will be another code in the TCM when you check it. even if the light is off it sill still be stored there.

Usually if the torrington bearing fails it will still move and make bad sounds lol.

You need a Tech2 or equivalent to read trans codes. Sounds like your "trans build" is going to cost you quite a bit more than you bargained for.

As mentioned get a Tech II or equivalent and get the codes stored in the TCM. Could be something simple or catastrophic. Since you put 6000 miles on the build with no issues maybe its something simple. No one will know without the stored codes!

Did you try disconnecting the connector at the back of the trans and seeing if it will give you 3rd gear and able to drive forward?
