Truck caught on fire last night at pulls

It was a small fire that I believe originated from my up-pipes being cherry red and putting the fire proofing material on my firewall up in flames:eek:.. I snapped some pics of my up-pipes all balloned and disformed:( Theres also some good up pipes in some of the pics showing just how distorted mine are. I did have a fire extinguisher in the truck so other then making a huge mess under my hood all my electrical and cooling lines seem fine. The other thing I noticed was the wastegate cover on the side of my BD turbo got hot enough to warp aswell. Is there suppose to be a gasket in there:confused: Also what are some recomendations on what to re-cover my firewall with. I know some sort of heat blanket but were should I get it and what is the best kind? What should I do with my BD turbo? Send it in for a rebuild or just get a new cover and run it? I am not sure what is or could be affected by getting so hot but other then the cover everything looks fine. Is this a common problem in high HP trucks? I was running a really hot tune and made two back to back pulls but I did not expect flames at the end of the track:mad:

that sucks.

I just used that heat insulation tape you can get at NAPA or HVAC companies. I dont remember what its called but it is reflective and has an adhesive backing, you can buy it in sheets and then cut out what you need. Worked good for me. I just stuck it right to the firewall.

damn man sorry to hear about the fire. hope nothing got hurt. not sure what to tell you about the turbo. if you have the coin i would say get it looked at just to make sure. rather be safe then sorry.

on edit - i might have to check my fire wall out as well while the motor is out.

:( That does suck.

We have pipes that look exactly like that.

That is the reason Casper Firewall is naked.

Looks like in the before pic the insulation was already exposed. Any chance it caught there ?

More then likely yes, between the turbo's coming in and out about 10 times in the past 4 months and the motor being out I would say there was a good chance it had some rips...

Well I guess if Casper is running naked, mine would probably be fine aswell without the insulation. I might end up doing something there simply for looks though, It looks like sh!t now and I think the firewall paint is shot:(

Sorry to hear that, i copied this from my old post.

I went with silver high heat paint:)

Then kicked it up a notch and placed some heat sheild from DEI this stuff sticks great and molds easy. You need tinsnips to cut it, Part# 050501

Its a little thick but before i painted i took a sledge hammer to the firewall and beat it back about a inch or so to make room for bigger pipes

I ripped out my hood blanket and firewall blanket after seeing this in earlier posts. Maybe that Kevlar sheet would do on the firewall. Have to keep looking for a tough fire stop.

Texas Y'all
My hood and fire wall are naked. Ive had a few fires this year, i guess anytime your headers and up pipes are glowing red, and any fluid touches them.. including antifreeze, it makes a fire.

i hate to say it but my first adventure was the block off plate an i didnt tighten it well enough or it came loose because the bottom nut was missing.. but i had the tuner turned up the heat from the crack left from block off plate caught the back firewall stuff to catch on fire not a big flame but it was red coals.. i had a quirt bottle an slowly got home and ripped all that crap out.. but im gonna use that link .. its gotta help keep noise out too..
