yeah i will be painting them hopefully soon. i know i cheaped out on the plating options :O: lol. oh well things happen for a reason...i would have destroyed the coating on the downpipe wiggling that thing in and out :D.

on that note some other mods i had to do included cutting the bump off the inner fender to get the overflow tank to fit. my truck was hit on that side a few years ago and most likely shifted everything to the drivers side. and the 2 vertical studs for the battery tray needed to be cut off to clear the downpipe

Interesting on the stubs as i had an inch clearance on my truck , and also found out that the race cover is a larger diameter housing that why it was tight for the coolant tank , my test race cover ( v-band style ) fit still but was def tighter it took a wack to get it in place , going to move the turbo over 1" towards the motor on the kits from here out so there is a little more space .

I thought that some of the pics I seen of Trents kits had a heat shield around the air filter

it came with a heatshield/cold air box but i didnt put it in. i think where i mounted my coolant tank screwed me out of it. but i didnt even try so...

I really like that Trent made that heat shield it def serves a purpose i logged my IAT for the first time with twins and was shocked!!!!! i gained massive amounts of temp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He offered to build one for me, but i told him i would build my own....I would def think of getting his on there though:)

isnt the point of a cold air intake/heat shield to lose/drop temp...?

If you are gaining lots of air temperature I would say its being counter-productive.

Do your twins have a heat shield?

no, I dont have a heat sheild, because my IAT's are already within 2-3* of outside ambient temp.

You obviously completely missed what I said. You said "I GAINED MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF TEMP WITH THE HEAT SHIELD". What im guessing you actually meant by this was "I GAINED MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF TEMP [reduction] WITH THE HEAT SHIELD"

I was merely being sarcastic/picking on you with my previous post, forget it.

I like that Trent added that to his twin kits! And want to add one to mine, because I logged IAT and it was 50+ above ambient air temp.

Im curious how come yours = ambient air temp? Mine use too when I had a heat shield on, But since the install they dont! I am talking after runnin the truck hard Ben, Perhaps start up and a trip to the 7-11 to get a slurpee they dont get that high:confused:

Ill eventually get the heat shield on I just haven't yet. I think I used one of the holes it mounts to for the overflow. I just need to get in and check it out. If I need to modify it I will

I dont know, they just do. The only time they creep up is if Im dead stopped (like not moving) in traffic and its hot (80*+ OAT). As soon as im moving above 15mph or so they drop right back down to more or less ambient temp.

I will get a log of it for the people that think im lying.

im not going to derail the thread with this though

I honestly dont see how? The filter sucks air and if its in the engine compartement. It's going to get air/heat from around the motor! If you think the heat shield is a bad idea FINE! But i dissagree and can show logs to prove what it does on a WOT run.....If you choose to not do this,I dont care about your truck. But your filter must be special as it SAYS NO TO SURROUNDING TEMPS:rolleyes:

you are so stupid simon, stop putting words in my mouth.

I didnt say it is a "BAD IDEA"

I said on MY truck with MY designed/built twins it doesnt make any bit of difference not having a heat shield.

Nobody gives a shit if YOU "cant see how" or "dont understand why", the fact/TRUTH of the matter is, for whatever reason, mine generally run within 5* of outside air temp. As long as Im moving over 15mph or so. Ill beleive my tech 2 way before I believe simons super-educated (as far as building/designing twin turbos) 'gut feeling' or 'opinion'.

At speed there is alot of air moving around everywhere...I don't know where Ben's filter is mounted, but mine (granted I'm a single turbo) mounted where the stock box was, with the airbox mounting plate removed stays inline with Ben's truck. It actually gets air from behind the bumper with that plate removed...not too hot right there...

The fact is Ben that people do care! If you want to run around spouting off that your twins are so great that the temps stay with in 5 degrees that's fine
I personaly think it's a good idea to cover the filter from motor temps and that is what I was saying! I personally don't belive what your saying because it's impoodible for air to be surrounded by a hot motor and not have the temps influenced by it

is that really being stupid? No! I was surprised that it had that much of a influence and that is what I posted!

Stop being such a lil :baby:

When I ran a single mine stayed the same or a few degrees above ambient I used a heat shield with the single. With the twins I don't

perhaps I need a tech 2 to get accurate data though?
