The fact is Ben that people do care! If you want to run around spouting off that your twins are so great that the temps stay with in 5 degrees that's fine
I personaly think it's a good idea to cover the filter from motor temps and that is what I was saying! I personally don't belive what your saying because it's impoodible for air to be surrounded by a hot motor and not have the temps influenced by it

is that really being stupid? No! I was surprised that it had that much of a influence and that is what I posted!

Stop being such a lil :baby:

put your drink down and go to bed. Your posts are getting harder and harder to make any sense of.

Ill get you this "unbelievable" data tomorrow.

Ben does your filter come straight off the turbo in the engine compartment running next to the alternator and radiator or does it make a 90 and go down into the corner like the MPI kits? Kinda behind the bumper a little.

Come on guys this inst worth arguing over , I have ran my twins with the heat shield and with out it , filter down by the bumper in my old setup , filter up top , the heat shield in either setup is a good idea but it works fine with out it but i built it because i know after testing that when the fan is fully engaged and the direction it is spinning guess what side of the motor all that super hot air is pushed to ??? you got it ........................the passenger side ..................and i don't care were you put the filter the whole corner gets nailed hard , and was certainly better with a heat shield in place , if you guys don't believe me that's fine but i tested it and have plenty of logs from all 3 setups mentioned and have studied all very carefully ;) The shield does not create miracles , will not get you 30 mpg, or 100 extra HP , but to say its worthless I dont get there is far more going on than what logging IAT shows , that is just one aspect to it .

wow jeezuz is everyone really trying that hard to set out and make me look like the bad guy??????

All I said was "on my truck, on the roads I drive, in my area of the country, in my application.......a heat shield is/was not needed to keep IAT's acceptable"

I didnt say it was a "BAD IDEA". I didnt say it was "POINTLESS". I didnt say it was "INEFFECTIVE". And I most certainly didnt say "TRENTS IDEA IS DUMB AND HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT" (which simon is trying to make it out like thats what I was saying just to make me look like an asshole)

I didnt take it that way Ben , just stating what led to me building it and why i did , no offense taken here

Ben, could your IAT oddness be because of how you "offset" your twin design? Both of you guys have great ideas. A person cant go wrong dealing with either one of you. :thumb:

ah ha!! Thats a great point Tom, I never thought of that. It definitely makes sense though. My air filter is 'huddled' way in the corner of the fender and is kinda blocked from engine heat by the turbo itself, fuel filter, etc.

That's why I asked earlier how it was set-up. It makes sense with your design as to why it would be cooler. Not saying that yours or Trent's set-up are better than the other or anything, just different.

here is a clip of a couple runs I did. This is from a little while ago.

Outside air temp was ~65*

I let the truck heat soak in the sun, did a hard run and came right down to a stop and let it heat soak. Highest IAT got was 79*. As soon as I got above 19-20mph the IAT dropped right away to within 5* of ambient and stayed that way in all sorts of driving conditions regardless of how hard or easy I ran the truck.

The hottest I can get the truck is if I run it HARD and then immediately come down to a stop, even then I dont even see the IAT 15-20* over ambient. Then as soon as I start moving again (15-20mph) IAT immediately drops back down to basically ambient outside air temp...

This is just a screenshot, if anyone still doesnt beleive me I can send several entire log files..

Ben, have you been able to test your IAT's at 95* plus weather, mine are hovering around 150* when the outside temps are high, but in cooler weather they are manageable.

My truck is the exact same as bens, it runs within 5* of outside air, summer or winter, I even pull the head light when pulling heavy in the summer, makes a huge difference
