If it freezes in the TC it will also freeze in your engine, which it doesn't so you're alright with it.

You're running 5w30 in your T case Dale? How's it working out for you?

I was having a problem with the transfer case ATF oil getting too hot and puking out the overflow while I was towing heavy. I replaced the ATF with 3 quarts of Mobile1 Syn 5W-30 motor oil and have had no more issues in over 30-40,000 miles. No more puking!

No Dan not yet. This thread just reminded me I need to do it as well as my diff's.
I'm going to try the 5W-30 synthetic in the TCase seeing as I have some kicking around from my old Civic.

wouldn't it be too slippery for the clutches? I was told you was a fluid that won't rust the steel pieces but something with minimal lube to help the clutches.

The transfer cases in our trucks don't have any clutches.

Well I got the diff's done with the amsoil Torqdrive but forgot about the damn T-Case.
I need to get on the hoist at MPL and install my Webasto heater anyhow so I could probably do it then. Did you ever change your T-Case oil Dan??

Just for the hell of it I tried this in the new LMM transfercase. I filled it to the fill plug then removed the speed sensor and dumped another quart. I ran it for a while it may be a coinsidance but both out put shaft seals started leaking (tail shaft & front output). The rear was worse so I replaced it there was nothing visable wrong with the seal it's possible the spring was weak but the rubber portion looked new it still had the grooves in it. I lowere the oil level to normal and the front quit for now. I have been running this oil for about 30,000 miles

No Dale I didn't change it yet. I did my front and rear diffs though with Severe Gear. I have a few days off now so if the weather holds out I will probably get it done along with the changing the ATF and spin on. I will let you know how it goes if it doesn't snow. :)

This mod was not meant for the new TC. We do not know enough about the new one. Go back to the rec. fluid.

I know but I figured I would give er hell anyways :D I forgot to say I have the manual transfer case, shift lever on the floor and its a noisy bastered under a load so I figured I would give the heavier oil a try no difference in sound though. One things for sure the stock stuff was burnt after 20,000 and I checked on the 5w-30 when I drained the excess out after about 30,000 and it still looked good.

I just changed to 3 qts of Amsoil 5w30 this afternoon. I only took it for a short drive though, I will check for leaks in the A.M. This is on a 2006 with 49000km (30625 mi). To do this I removed the speed sensor at the top of the T-case, then removed the drain plug. The fluid comes out fast so be ready. After it was drained I put a little bit of thread sealer on the threads and screwed it back in. I didn't put the drain plug in too tight, just fairly snug I guess. I then pumped 3qts of 5w30 in through the speed sensor, then reinstalled and connected the wire again. The size of the drain plug is 18mm I believe, and the speed sensor is 19mm. I didn't touch the factory fill plug. Hope this helps. I would have taken pics, but I don't have a camera.
