While towing I am always watching my guages, however, around town not so much. Recently I have noticed that my trans temp has been running between 185-205 arouund town. I am getting ready for a long trip and am concerned that something my be wrong. While towing, my temps only get this high going up long steep grades. Thank you for any help.

In lockup @ 5th gear your temps should come down actually. In town driving with stop and go will get your temps up there. You can run Transynd fluid in your transmission and it should help. After that if youre still not happy you can upgrade the tranny cooler. Mike L has one that's yielded great results as some here will attest to.

Sounds a little high but the temps will depend on how much the stater is enduring during fluid coupling and how much locking and unlocking the T/C is doing. You will see some lower temps in Tow/Haul if the T/C is locked up more.

Yes, I run the Mike L. cooler for a major difference.

When was the last time you changed the trans spin on filter? and fill out your sig so we know what you have.

Is your trans built? Reason i ask is because i notice a big temp difference from stock to a built trans! And i got a deeper pan,Mine runs about 190-205 range also, but like the guy above stated once in 5th it cools down

Also check your fluid level as in over filled. In city driving your torque converter is most likely unlocked which will cause it to run warmer. You could try using tow haul mode. Also ambient temps play a part here also along with running your ac. IMO those temps aren't unreasonable as in the conditions I've described. Most of the time your transmission temp mocks engine temp. Best recourse is to run a larger cooler if you want lower temps.

Helps to fill out your signature and location also.

I am having a hard time getting the 6 speed coolers. Seems Setrab is a little hungry lately and we may see some soon.
It is very frustrating after I worked with the setrab engineers and we made one of the finest coolers ever built and can't get them. This is the problem with Europe.
We here in the USA are not much better if not worse.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I run transynd, changed filter last month, 08 LMM, fluid is full, it is stock and sorry for not filling out my sig. I'll do it now. Thanks again.

Well I guess I was assuming you would be running a converter that coupled sooner and slipped less unlocked. So ya I guess it would depend on that.

The fact that you are running an extra ~50psi of mainline is going to raise temps more than an efficient/aftermarket converter will bring them back down.

Bottom line. A built trans is going to run hotter. Even if you run around in tow/haul all the time (thus, effectively taking the converter's efficiency out of the equation), the pressure is still higher.

Regardless, its nothing to worry about (the trans running hotter). You really arent gonna hurt any allison (built or stock) by running it hot.
