Would powder coat chip away as the cross member "flexes" under stress? Looks nifty

Not if it is done right. We either powder coat or use endura paint on all our equipment at work and have no issues with it cracking.

I personally would leave it the way it is.

This is just a guess but I think since the 5" exhaust kits have 4" frontpipes then the 5" kits will fit just the same as the 4" kits.

The 5" stainless Magna Flow exhaust systems are 5" right from the connection that clamps to the factory down pipe. I tried to fit the Magna flow system and ran into problems with the 5" pipe and the cross members.

Nice work from Guy and Chris, as usual.

I don't get it though? Whats to gain? On a lower truck If clearance is an issue what about the front cross member and arms? Replacing the crossmember rids you of a mid chassis obstacle (7" +/-) but whatever you hit is gonna get the front diff/A Arms (7 1/2" +/-) or something else prior to that. Unless the ramp on the trailer is to steep? Agreed/regardless it would look better than the "scab" currently attached to the bottom of the frame...

Nice stuff guys.:D

2" more ground clearance.

As long as you race with your tires on the truck, obstacles like differential housings and oil pans don't come into play since the tires make the truck go up, unless you are driving down crowned fireroads or driving over debris in the road.

Yes, there are many folk who have no need, desire, or experience with this. What continues to puzzle me is why they give a damn about a part they aren't going to run. They are worse than the freakin' header groupies.

Any idea about how much that piece runs to the normal public? Id like one just for the gain in ground clearance for offroad use, now if only cognito would release the 7-9 kit with the NTB drop setup like the 4-6 Id be set.:D

I have replaced at least 10 crossmembers so far. They were all bent from off roading and nothing else was hurt. Long wheelbase truck cresting a very short hill; you can figure out the rest.

I just put my truck up on my lift and the crossmember that a 5" pipe will not fit over is the torsion bar mount. Does anyone know if there is an after market torsion bar crossmember available. Second, does the torsion bar crossmember fit from an earlier truck to enable putting a 5" front pipe on the truck.

Ill talk to Justin (owner of Congito) tomorrow and see what he has to say.

Id appreciate it, I sent them an email, and talked to Nick at Norcal and there wasnt really a definite answer. Im ready to buy one at any time I just need more than the 4-6 but I need the NTB drop setup since I use my truck so much at the deer lease. I dont really want that big anchor hanging under the truck.

Tell him he'll atleast have one buyer, I wont be able to isntall it till late March when I get back from my Army stuff though.:(

I get that one, agreed. But it was installed/built for Casper right? My truck sits like Casper and i have 3-4 things that would hit stuff before the cross member does. I have hit the approach coming out of the grocery store several times... its bothersome but i haven't bent anything yet.

I could see perhaps (on a lower truck) where it (factory part) could hit a steep trailer ramp at the hinge and do damage, that would suck.

Cool part/nice fabrication, good luck gents.

We can definitely build more if there is a need.

Notches are for the torsion bars.

I wanted to powdercoat it, but Pat needed it ASAP so he could finish Casper.

Build me one please ....no paint or coating for me :)

X2

X2 the oilfield guys here have always complained about not enough clearance when out in the mud. That's why the buy furd and dogs.:D

Same thing here:D

I'll work up a production price and let you guys know. My fabricator (Shawn) is down in Cabo San Lucas this week trying to catch the swine flu  so most likely no info until next week when he gets back.

He does great work, I was lucky to hire him away from Robby Gordon Motorsports.

Although I'm not sure I'm going to let him back in the building until after a 4 day quarantine period .

Why would they sell an exhaust kit that requires you to find your own or modify a torsion bar crossmember to fit there exhaust? I think your doing somthing wrong. or just return it for a 5" MBRP

Where are the installed pics at? Im guessing with this crossmember you can no longer use the stock tcase skid plate anymore? Id really rather be able to keep it since I really do use my truck offroad.
