Finally! After a year of trying to get a Trans Cross Member from various sources, SoCalDiesel agreed to make me one. If I understand it correctly, these are available to be ordered. Hats off to Guy and Chris:

For some it will be for looks. For some, it would be for ground clearance. I need the ground clearance.

The trans brace simply hold up one end of the engine/trans assembly. Think of it as your third motor mount. The factory item is plenty strong for racing, but it sticks down too far for my taste.

Pat, I know Guy doesn't screw around with quality. Would you say this cross member is stronger than the factory one?

Didn't Mike say SunCoast was releasing one a while back? What happened to that one?

I called Suncoast and spoke with the owner. The Duramax trans crossmember project is on indefinate hold, with no projected release date, and no assurance they will continue to work on it. The "vibe" I got was the project wasn't worth their time.

I was a bit bummed when I heard that. Both the part status, and the attitude that Dmax performance isn't very high on their list currently.

The factory unit is pretty strong, so if this piece is just as strong, then it is a good thing. DJM makes one for 2wd only that I'm not sure even will fit on with an Allison, but the DJM stuff is pretty cheezy, IMO. I bought their lowering kit and didn't install it because it looks to be weaker than OEM pieces.

Nice, looks like a pretty good part. Any talk on building more?

I have a drawing that looks close to that for the one I was going to build for my truck. What are the notches for, exhaust?

Pat, you better paint that! :D

We can definitely build more if there is a need.

Notches are for the torsion bars.

I wanted to powdercoat it, but Pat needed it ASAP so he could finish Casper.

Would powder coat chip away as the cross member "flexes" under stress? Looks nifty
