Well I havent limped the truck but the converter is definitely hurting. Ill need my transmission built shortly. I have already decided to run Mike L's new TC but I do not know what clutch kit to go with. Looking to hold around 550hp, stock turbo truck. Ill probably run the truck around 450hp though. Im not doing any serious pulling or racing. Is a PPE stage IV good? Any better recommendations?

Mike is not selling kits anymore, and he is too far away for me to have him do the build or I would. PPE stage IV holds 850 correct? What are the SC kits rated at?

Where do these crazy numbers come from? Even at the crank those numbers are unrealistic. At a 20% correction you have 680 hp at the wheels. A top builder will have to make a bunch of modifications to try and hold that with a stage 3 type kit.

Jeez If I were only 6 hours away from Mike I would drive to the shop every so often just to annoy him....and hear the trains go by. :D

But in all seriousness to the original poster...make the drive to see Mike, its worth it knowing you have a first class trans that you will never have to worry about again. :thumb:

Diesel53, was your truck for sale on CL? I think I've seen it on there a few times. I guess you decided to keep it.

About the trans, just do a full stage 5 build and be done with it. No sense in spending the money to go half way.

x3 on going to see Mike for the best route , if you do decide on kit only the GMAX kits are a good setup and would be plenty to handle what you want now and have some room to grow .

Like Mike said the PPE Stage 4 is equivalent to a SC Stage 3, which is rated at a realistic 500 rwhp. That means you can pretty much beat the crap out of it with 500 rwhp and still have it last. The right builder can easily get a stage 3 to hold 600 rwhp reliably with a few extra tweaks. Could you put down 680 rwhp on the dyno with a Stage 3? Sure. Could you beat the snot out of a Stage 3 with 680 rwhp daily? For a while, but it's not gonna last like it should.

The PPE Stage 5 is equivalent to (a knock-off of) the SC Stage 4 which is rated at a realistic 800 rwhp. Again the right builder can make it hold more with a few tweaks.

I don't see how 850 horse power isn't realistic. I can add just as well as the next guy. If you add factory horse power and box top manufactures horse power ratings for products I have purchased plus sticker horse power im probably at 1340 horse! My banks exhaust was 35 horse alone AFE intake another 50 horse! Plus my TTS sticker. That bitch is rated for a good 350 at the rear wheels and mister I got two of those bad boys anyone need one?:roflmao:

Thanks for the input, Mike is about 11 hrs from me and I just dont have the time or I would have him do it.

Okay that helps, I was assuming that these hp/torque holding numbers advertised are somewhat accurate. So either PPE stage 5 or a GMAX kit are my options. Is there only one GMAX kit for a six speed? 6-3 is what I see around and its supposed to be the equivalent to the old SC IV?

Yes I was going to get rid of my truck but its not worth getting rid of an excellant running duramax.

I am running the PPE V with there convertor. I am running about 620 or so at the wheels. it works very well. I like it. convertor is a little rough at times daily driving.

The gmax 6-3 comes with all your seals, valve body and pump mods. And I think ppe converters are repainted ML converters could be wrong tho
