I'm aware of the kits from Suncoast, But...My question is what all is contained in the kits? Would it be cheaper to buy the parts individually? Such as Red Eagle Clutches from Alto, A full Transgo., and then a converter probably a 1058 from Suncoast...I am just looking for the cheapest way possible and if can get the same parts or like parts contained in the kit and save some $$$. I plan on doing the install myself when I can afford to do so

You can buy the parts and save yourself money in the begining. You will have to engineer the proper setup to work. It will be a long costly, lonely road.

ebay for red eagle clutches, a convertor and a shift kit. Thats pretty much a SCIII. Then your good to go with way less in cost. Or you can go with a TTS kit that utilizes stock clutches.

This works with disposable income, not something I have...If I had it do do all over again, I would have ponied up the dough for an SC V....

So your saying that it would be best to just ante up then...Mike what all comes in the stage IV kit?

Yeah it was my understanding that this is all that comes in a SCIII kit and seems like it would be a much cheaper route...

I could see the concept working with the TTS kit but I have rode in a truck that had one and it did not shift well at all, the owner which owns a diesel performance shop said it took a lot of work just to get it to work the way it was when I rode in it.

So many things wrong in this post for one bigmackmiller is asking MikeL about the tranny build option,I find it as a insulting to MikeL to even post TTS in his vendor form and also to try and to steer someone to buy mix matched parts from ebay.Mikes tech support is the best around along with Bigdipper.

go with SC you wont be upset. it may be a little more but at least you KNOW what you are getting. Mike L also has budget kits i think. might be something you want to ask him about. also what kind of power do you want.

I didn't bag on Mike L one bit. he is the best tranny builder around. I'm just trying to give the guy some options because everybody doesn't have the money to buy the whole kit. I built my own with clutches and shift kit and it holds 600hp daily! It's not insulting to give a guy cheap options just so you know.

There are other options out there, but I believe the Suncoast option is the best.

Would suck if this board didn't allow people to voice their opinions and to think outside the box:confused:

Agreed. He asked for options and people are just stating them. I think what you need to decide is are you going to build it yourself or have it built. If youre having it built, buy a SC kit. If you are going to take on building it yourself, you can save some money by putting together your own kit. It will take more time and thought as Mike L stated, but it will save you a little money and get you the same performance. Mine is pretty much an SCIII with some added stuff and by putting it together I saved about $350.

For all the problems I've seen over the last 4 years, I'd personally recommend going to a shop who has done at least 50 trucks and has a good rep. For many folk, this is the cheapest in the long run. Yes, some have DIY'd and had good luck with it, but there are enough "problem trucks" I've seen that I'd be gunshy.

My personal recommendation is Mike L, simply because I've run his stuff for a long time with excellent results.

As far as TTS trans stuff goes, they were pretty good 4 years ago, but never progressed any further. I personally wouldn't bother with it.

It comes with machined apply and backing plates, to increase the clutch count in certain packs, even if you owned a machine shop and were a very proficient machinist, you could not beat suncoast price. Remember they sell a lot of these kits, so they cand spread out the cost of the engineering.

My parents own a machiine shop, actually one of the largest (contract wise) in the south east, and I would never consider trying to match up the parts myself when a mear 2780.00 gets the stage four kit.

I ran ATS stuff once.

At the time, their quality control was poor. Nearly everything they sold had material defects. Converter, clutches, and CoPilot all went bad immediately. CoPilot was DOA out of the box.

Unless I had solid proof they resolved the QC issue, I would not recommend them.
