I just looked up my toyo at2 size. They spec them at 33.4 max inflated. So I guess I should start my calculations with a 33" tire instead of 34"

I wouldn’t run a 4.56 unless I was a 37” tire or bigger. Yes you will be higher in the rpm range on a 34”, but mileage will suffer. If you need the power to pull a hill or heavy load, downshift.

I ran 32" tires with 4.56 never saw mpg change worth noting, also didn't run faster than 72-75 2100-2300 at said speed..

Definitely on the short side. Ut on par with the 5sp dmaxs

I've never made trips like this in my 05. But it seems to have always got great mileage empty truck on the highway. And I mean like 18-22 depending on hills and how hard I ran it. This 06 dually showed 23 on the freeway at 77 earlier in the week. But I also know pulling 25k it would run 280 miles on 32 gallons. Which I think is about 8.25 mpg. Which sucks

You also always had 100 000 000 pounds behind you so I don’t doubt you didn’t. 5 mpg is 5 mpg lol.

The way I see it, if the load is the same then the fuel should be the same as it take a certain amount of energy to push the truck down the road. If you are running lower RPMs then it will have less power strokes so it will need more fuel per each injection. If higher RPM then less fuel per each injection. The difference will be the efficiency of the different RPM ranges. Tuning can help with this part to a certain extent

Heavier tires, excess weight, trailers, wind, temperature, fuel btu, etc will all have an impact on MPG
