All depends on the terrain, speed, and wind. I normally just let my truck do it’s own thing only locking out 6th when I’m in a rolling hills or a headwind. Maybe it’s the tune but I don’t understand you guys complaining about the transmission hunting. I had to make my Lbz down shift sooner it would take 70% throttle in 6th before it would down shift with the stock TCM tune.

Same here. It REALLY will not down shift in cruise control. Need to dick with that some

X3. I usually lock out 6th if I’m doing less than 65mph and it just putts along. Part of the reason I want to put a tune into it is to adjust shift points. Stupid warranty thing though.....

I could tell when I left it in drive and was starting to pull a hill. It would lug pretty quick but a simple tap on the shifter and 5th would do the trick. Now some needed another tap to 4th. But that was as low as I had to go. I'm pleased with the way it tows up on the top end. Would like for the fuel mileage to be a little better but I know you can't have your cake and eat it too. But from a take off it seems a little doggy to me. I'm starting to look at the air flow side to see if there's any restrictions I can eliminate easily and not break the bank.

I regeared mine and I love it. If you have the coin and plan on staying with that tire size then you may want to think more about regearing.

When I put my tires on, about a 34", it was much slower and didn't pull too well. I tried locking out 5th etc but it still felt much more sluggish. MPG has always been pour but it was worse with the larger tires. Decided on some 4.56s and now it feels like it could pull a house down

I run 2k rpm at 70 mph in 6th. Probably should have gone with 4.30 but didn't find any in stock at the time. Dont regret it one bit. MPG also came back up even with the slightly higher than normal RPMs

I agree with the regearing if one has the coin. A 4.10 on 35’s will put you right around stock setup engine rpms which would be my choice if I was to do it.

I've got a place pretty local that i can get 4.10 or 4.56 gears and install kit for 400 each. or for 650 they will build my front end for me.

but im running 295s so im not quite a 35 inch tire. but im close.

the calculator says i need 4.32 to be like it was stock. so im kinda afraid of the freeway driving with 4.56 over the 4.10

Afaik they still don't make 4.30 for the front..
4.10 if it's more DD than towing
4.56 if more towing than DD..
4.56 if running 34-35" tires

Power band really starts around 2000

The MD Kodiak ran 2400-2500rpm down the road

I also replotted my shift points and TCC lock up

I wouldn’t run a 4.56 unless I was a 37” tire or bigger. Yes you will be higher in the rpm range on a 34”, but mileage will suffer. If you need the power to pull a hill or heavy load, downshift.

My MPGs when I had 32.5" tires and 3.73 gears doesn't seem to have changed when I put on 34" tires with 4.56 gears.

Now when I had the 34" tires with 3.73 gears it went down

What kinda mileage was that? With 3.73 and 4.56?

With the 32.5"/3.73 it was about 13 city and 18-20 hw

I want to say on the 34" tires and 3.73 it was 9 city and 15 hw. I may be wrong as I only ran it for a month or so. It was definitely less

With 34"/4.56 I am back to the same as the 32.5"/3.73

Mine went down with 35’s and 3.73 till I deleted and tuned my lbz then I was getting the same again as my buddies same year but stock truck. Consistent 18-20 mpg. Till I built the engine then it all went sideways.

There’s no way running the hwy at 2000+ rpms you will get better mileage based on what I’ve seen. Not without some serious tuning adjustments in that rpm range and even then I doubt it. I’ve found 1700 - 1800 area is the best for fuel with the tuning I used to run.

This is just based on what I saw with my lbz and a couple others. Individual results may vary I suppose.

I think the 444 would put me at like 1825 running 34s and 70 mph. In 6th gear. So the 430s might make it about rite.

Well it is my own tuning so...

I have struggled to get anything better in the city. I've played around with the timing, boost, etc and have pretty much given up hope. Now its tuned for fun. Hiway still seems to net at least 18 from what I can measure. I have yet to run a full tank on only hiway that wasn't mixed with hills or city
