Towing a allison in neutral

Your other option I haven't seen mentioned is a remco lube pump. So long as your hooking it up for lights, you will have power as well, and can put a remco lube pump in to circulate oil through the trans with the engine off.

Ok Mike thanks for your input! We definitely will listen to your advice. So just to make sure I fully understand.... It is completely safe to tow with the t-case in neutral, right? And while t-case is in neutral the trans can safely be put in park so the key will be able to go to off position?

And another thing is I'm almost positive this truck has no steering wheel lock with the key off, if it does we will remove it. Learned that lesson the hard way once on a older truck, wrecked a set of brand new front tires...lol

Oh! I guess I'm a little confused here. With the t-case in neutral, drive shaft in place, and towing it that way.....are we risking damage to the trans or the t-case?

Removing the drive shaft would be a pain doing it that many times a day especially out in muddy fields, and unsafe around hills....we would have to use wheel chocks. I would think we would loose the u-joints end caps on a daily basis as well...lol Not to mention we have no place to put the drive shaft once it removed, the utility box has a big air compressor and generator on board in the center which you could call the bed area...we're about out of room already. Lol

Current truck is a 98' gmc cclb with the 6.5L and 4 speed auto (4l80?), we never had any troubles towing it...it prolly has about 50k miles being towed that way so far, and 250k on the odometer, odometer doesn't add miles while being towed.

Is another older truck (like what we have now) a better option over a allison equipt truck? I'm not sure what's trans is behind the 6.0l vortec....would that be a better option? Or a zf6 (which are impossible to find around here in 4x4 cclb 3500)?

Several guys have claimed to flat tow these trucks around the country with the tcase in neutral without a problem. With as little as you're going to do it and as slow you're as going I don't see a problem.

If you need to lock the steering wheel, just put the seatbelt through the steering wheel and buckle it.
I'm confused on how the trans output shaft can turn if the t case is in neutral?

There is no steering locks on these trucks.

We don't need to lock it. If it had a steering wheel lock like the older vehicles we would need to remove it so the front wheels can "follow" us. If the ignition locks the steering wheel the front wheels just slide every time you turn, can ruin tires very quickly.
