Too low of a price for a Dmax?

Whats up guys this is my first post here and today will hopefully be the day I finally make the jump from my gasser to an 07 LBZ. The truck I'm planning to purchase is a completely stock 07 GMC 3500hd. Has 98k miles, two owners, and the current owner says he has kept up with all the recommended maintenance. He did mention that it needs an oil change (although not direly bad) and it leaks a slight bit of power steering fluid from around the rack (confident enough in my mechanical abilities to fix this), but other than that he claims it drives EXCELLENT... All in All he sounds very straight forward, the only thing is he's asking $16,000 for it which seems insanely low... wondering what some of your opinions are on this and if you could give me any insight on checking the injectors/glow plugs without a scan tool.
Any help would be immensely appreciated!

There really isn't enough info to properly determine a value. What is the cab configureation? 2wd or 4wd? Trim level and options? Single wheel or dual?

I appreciate your reply josh! Sorry I posted too quick without enough info. The truck is 4x4, crew cab, I believe its a base model trim and its a single wheel, not a dully. If threes anymore info i can provide just let me know. Truck is completely stock and hasn't even been tuned.

The price sounds pretty reasonable to me. It's a good deal for the miles, but being a base model truck with a long bed, those are pretty big dings against it as far as market value goes.

Right on, I really appreciate the help! Pretty uneducated on duramax resale values. Could you explain why the long bed would be bad for resale? As long as it’ll at least hold its value at that price I’ll be happy. As far as personal preference, I’m not too concerned with the trim model. Just need me a clean running LBZ. Sorry for the questions, like I said I’m just uneducated on fair values for these trucks.

P.S. if you have anyway of checking the glow plugs/injectors without a scan tool I’d appreciate the help. Thanks again

You asked about the glow plugs if you have a multi meter and don't mind getting dirty you can check the values by leaving the truck off place the meter in ohms place one lead on the battery ground and check resistance at every glow plugs if any are 55 to 65 ohms of resistance that will tell how many are bad or if any are bad the dash light will stay on longer than 5-10 seconds indicating there a problem. as for injectors that's a hard one the lbz is different than say the lb7 they have tell tell signs the lbz usually just fail and knock or cackle a simple fuel cut out test will condem the bad injectors but that has to be done with a scan tool I've heard some get as high as 250k and some no so lucky but they all seem to last longer than usual jmho hope this helps:thumb:

Most people don't want a long bed, and if they do, most guys getting long beds, at least around here, want dual rear wheels. It is probably one of the least desirable cab configurations (behind an extended cab long bed). Nothing wrong with any of them, but they have the smallest market.

Regular cab long bed is up there in the short list of Least wanted configurations
Bought my RCLB lmm 3500drw with 98k for 17k CC version where almost double for similar mileage

I buy and sell these trucks as a side business and I have not found that to be the case. SCLB trucks are insanely desirable. It is the single cab long bed dually that is a tough sell. Extended cab trucks are very hard to sell. Extended cabs went out of style many years ago. An extended cab long bed you can hardly give away and extended cab short beds are about as bad. Crew cab long beds have a loyal following especially among guys that actually use their trucks for work. Hands down the most desirable/easiest truck to sell is a crew cab short bed fully loaded.

To to OP, I don't think that price is too far off the mark. Amazingly, if that truck was fully loaded with leather and full center console it would probably pull another $8-10k. Interesting, because you can add those options to a base model truck for just a couple grand. If it is a work truck with manual windows and locks etc then I don't even think it is worth the $16K.

Bad glow plugs are no reason to pass on a truck that is worth it otherwise. I mean you could make sure none are broke off but.... If you think you are able to repair the pwr steering leak, you can definitely change glow plugs.

They are 3 body styles out now, value is going to start dropping a bit. Banks aren't going to lend on them much longer and they will become cash purchase only which limits viable clientele.

Yep. It’s a good deal but values will be dropping because of newer bank rules, at least in my area. My credit union is the only place I know of that will give loans on vehicles older than 08 with 150k+ at decent rates. State employees stopped earlier last year. And my bank will only loan 115% of NADA clean trade value. Still a good amount, but this greatly hurts these style trucks especially people wanting gold prices for the. Now yes they’ll get it, but may take longer. Believe banks were getting tired of loaning crazy prices on these trucks and older cars and getting burned on them by kids that couldn’t pay.

It should throw a CEL if any glow plugs are bad.
Glow plugs are easy to diagnose. If they are black like this, then they must be bad

But yes, values of the classics has been hit hard lately. Most banks won't loan on anything older than 10 years or with more than 100k miles. That leaves most of these trucks selling as cash deals and your average buyer doesn't have $30k cash sitting around. Even the gold plated LBZs can be had for around $10k these days if you don't mind some miles. Luckily they really were well built trucks and they are mostly still running well at 200-300k miles.
