Has anyone had any success with pro comp xtreme all terrain tires with hookin to the sled. I am tryin to figure out my handicap and i keep comin back to this my tire issue. I can not get these tires to bite. I need a tire that is good on road and on the sled . The trxus tires in my opinion are worthless and old school pullers tell me bfg all terrains are where its at. What does everyone think and has anyone had luck with these pro comps.

I have never seen them work well.
I think the STS can be to much tire for stock turbo trucks around here.

I would look into BFG AT K2, Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armours, and Mastercraft Courser CTs

Of those three the Goodyear is my favorite. I am one of the few that ran them. The have great traction and road manners.

i like the bfg all terains for pulling jmho the only time is saw those tires on a pulling truck was last year after we got a bunch of rain and the track was slipry but the truck with those tires won by like 90ft not sure if it was the tires or the fact that it was the only hot duramax there

IMO:

Tires are critical, and different tracks take different tires.

Loose tracks want large/deep tread patterns.
Tight tracks want a medium pattern, like an all-terrain.
Hardpack clay wants wide street tires with lots of edges.

I've been on a loose track with street tires, too much spin.
I've been on a tight track with an aggressive tire, it bogged on shifts.
I've been on hardpack with a fresh set of all-terrains, and it bounced all the way down the track.

It's fun being on hardpack with wide street tires though. You can hear the tires squealing and smell the rubber burning. :D

This is just my opinion though.

i have plenty of hp in every sit. should be nearing the 700 rw mark truck never hesitates in any condition and bounce i handle with the trac bars tires always seem to be goin a thousand miles an hour. the set i run is a sset of 35 s they are fairly wide so the contact patch is considerably large i just need to figure this out. It is a downer also cause they are brand new. and i dont know what to do with them

only truck Ive seen with those was Ryan uptegrafts

Evan Davis ran them for a couple years and then went to BFGs.

Your problem is you want a good tire for the road and the sled. Just past experience, find a set of dedicated pulling tires and you'll be far better off. Anything Johnboy mentioned will work great, and they will be much better if they stay off the street and keep their edges. I ran Nitto Dune Grapplers for a season and had great luck until they started to wear because of my daily driving. My brother had the same issue with BFGs he ran (and a heavy right foot ).

this works great for us and no they are not classed as cut tires..
run a set of tires for a very short time(takes roughly 1000 miles or so)but only run 40PSI in them on the fronts and that will cause them to cup out bigtime getting some serious edges on them and then rotate them and do the same thing but you can only run them for pulls only since if you run them to long(with higher PSI)they will start to loose their edge and don't tow with them without having the proper PSI..
i ran the CT and the Mickey ATZ and so far the ATZ is very impressive and they do bite hard..

for street and pulling use, if ti were me, I'd be looking for a set of BFG AT or a set of Mastercraft Courser CT both last and handle themselves well on the road AND the track. Obviously they'll not be as good as dedicated tires since the edges become rounded over and lose their edge with road driving but should still fair rpetty well on the track IMO.

IMO BFG's are not a great tire, but a good tire on all tracks, but STS's are only great on a great hp track, otherwise, they suck. STS's are only good on an ideal track.

Absolutely not true. I had a massive hook with STSes on a horse track this year, and had several other great hooks on varying tracks. However you must know the right pressures for the surface and the gear combo you want to run. STSes at high pressures will spin out....been there, done it.

The STS is the best pulling tire all-around. The only thing they suck on is greasy/muddy tracks.

Go to any of the midwest pulls and they're about all you see on dedicated trucks. The guy from Ohio that won our unlimited-single class ran 6 of 'em on his dually CTD. Pops gave me a really hard time once when I said "winners run STSes" and then it wasn't too long after that, guess who had a set :D

The BFG is OK but they tend to need to be spun hard once they lose their edges. Tomac and Burkhart ran them for a long time. Burkhart was sporting STSes the last time JB saw him.

I have never seen the Pro-comps work at all.

And the thing is, if you truly have 700 rwhp, you're going to need 33" or 35" STS (3rd or 4th low range depending on pressure) or the 35" BFG and go 4th gear and spin the tar out of 'em.

If you want to be near the front, don't street drive your pulling tires....because most of the competition is running sharp tires!

One last thing, just from experience. At 500rwhp, many sharp tires will work fine; it's more of an idiot-proof situation. It's at 600 and above where things get decidedly more tricky and you've got to have a really biting tire that's properly inflated for the surface and the gearing you're trying to run.

I agree with Mat. IMO, the STS is AS capable or better than ANY DOT tire on any track.

Only exception is maybe the Boggers in the sand (the FL guys prove they work best down there) and mud tires in... well, the mud. :D The STS can be setup to run with or in front of any other tire on pretty much every other kind of track. They ARE however quite dependent on truck setup and air pressure though. ;)
