I see diesel addiction is in Wilmington... which is the opposite side of the state for me. Who is closer? Or is there anyone? Eastern Tennessee and northwestern sc is closer than Wilmington.
Dude, if the engine is the heart of your truck...the trans is like the brain, or some other really important major organ like a liver maybe...whatever you want to relate it to you don't want to take a chance with the parts going into it and the guys working on it...

would you get a liver transplant in Mexico if it were closer, more convenient or cheaper???

I know a few guys that travel great distance to have their Allison transmissions built, I also travel quite a ways to get good work done, like 580mi and about 8hrs one way...

Stop believing the bull shit from vendors that have no idea what works. They are in it for the money.
You better rethink your kit and your builder. Laying an unfamiliar kit on a shop with little experience is a mistake.
Most kits, no matter who's they are will require modifications to get the right clearance. NOTHING fits right all the time because of different grooves in the Allison. When this occurs; your shop will just let it go.
Remember this; you are buying a clutch upgrade and nothing else. If something else is weak or wrong it will be this way when the job is done.

I didn't mention Diesel Addiction because Dustin is not a vendor here but since his name has already been thrown out I'll also recommend him. It would be worth it to take a couple days off, get a hotel room and have him do it. He can have your trans out built and back in and test drive it and have you ready to hit the road in a day. And if things don't go perfect he and his crew will stay until things are perfect. He offers more than just a kit install, he has learned some tricks from the best in the business.

Like:

How come my truck wont move?

OR:

Why does it make this noise?

And Perhaps for the Elder DY'ERS:

Anybody else lose their dentures on the 2-3 upshift?

So for get these Nay- Sayers get yourself a buddy ,to blame things on when it goes wrong, and dig in! I heard it's as easy as changing the toilet paper roll , everyone knows how to do that! :D

Ok I'm not stupid. Yes the transmission is an important part and I don't want to skimp on it. I was simply asking was that kit a good one if by the slight chance I decided to do it myself. I was also simply asking if there are any shops closer to my home that are just as good as Dustin. But yeah thanks for the input

Look at it this way, you could drive out to see Dustin the first time and have it done right. Or you can have it towed out to see Dustin when it's broken.

When I had my trans built I drove 500mi each way to have it done. Left at midnight and got home the next day at 4am.

I took the risk of doing mine myself and have had great luck with it. Do I trust it over 1000hp? No. Does it do what I need it to do? Yes. It feels good driving it to work everyday knowing I did it myself. I enjoy learning more and more about my truck. The good and the bad.

Understand that most people on this site are do it yourselfers. I Agree that it's rewarding to accomplish things on your own but Allisons operate in a way where clearances are critical. Most of the time you must have access to an assortment of different thickness steels that are not supplied to get clearences right. The simple fact is, you can make a simple little mistake or oversight and you have problems. I've watched as several allisons were built and have a good understanding of how they work and what it takes to make them hold power but I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole.

When it came time to build my Allison. I wasn't interested in building my own and I couldn't find anyone close to me that I was comfortable with. I called Mike L.. He built, then shipped me my trans. I installed it and shipped my core back to him. Shipping the Allison was cheaper than hotels and fuel. There's nothing better than knowing, not hoping, your getting a quality product from someone that will stand behind their work. I hope everything goes well with your build.
