The White devil

A bit over a month ago I hurt the trans in white devil, formerly great white, also known by some other names that aren't appropriate for public. The majority of the issues I was having I kept to myself since they were relatively small things that I am fortunately able to fix myself, but after getting it on the lift I was able to see some pretty piss poor "fabrication" skills at work. After hurting it I heard the true story of who built the trans and why from a couple very reliable sources who have asked to stay neutral in this situation.

I knew the trans had to come out anyway because of a tc issue I was having. The tc would lock immediately in 2nd while in normal drive when it was cold, and once warm would lock and unlock erratically. It was doing this even though the tcc solenoid duty cycle was zero%. Only issue could have been a converter flow valve problem.

Anyway, I was just getting the tuning semi squared away when I hurt the trans and lost 4th. Initial diagnosis was a stripped c2 hub or p2 planet. Trans was supposed to have a sleeved hub, more on that later. Ordered billet hub and planet and a new 1055, trans already had billet shafts. Big money into a super low mile trans. Shitty to have a $5k bill only three months and less than a thousand miles after buying a race ready built truck, especially after literally two pulls on a smallish tune.

Towed the truck up to Evan and he was cool enough to tear it down in front of us. Some pics for your enjoyment.
Stock hub that was supposed to be sleeved. Junk.

Converter flow valve flat tired on THE WRONG END, hence tc problems.

Badly warped steels out of I believe the c3 pack. Ruined fresh Suncoast intabulators, big money clutches added to the bill.

N****red drain plug to the mag hytec deep pan. Stud with a nut welded to it, which broke on the way out. Really?

Trans Had slotted steels in the c4s, which shredded the clutches and clogged the internal Filter, which in turn smoked the c3s. I'm not a trans builder, so my explanations may be incorrect, but as it was explained to me, this trans would not have survived regardless of the planet damage. This is the perfect example of how a builder can make all the difference. It was full of high dollar parts and the best clutches on the market but assembled by people who have no business working on a competition trans in a 1000hp truck.

Fortunately evan has big power experience and is going to get this thing right. Not to mention he has fantastic customer service. It is refreshing to have a builder who answers texts and phone calls immediately. I really hope I am finally able to enjoy this truck, because so far it has been a disappointment to say the least.

I would like to thank Evan @ limitless diesel, Andrew @ Suncoast, Logan (onebadmaxx), Shane (s.phinney). You guys at least keep me optimistic about the trucks potential and have been great with helping someone you have no real reason to help. I truly appreciate it all.

What did the previous owner have to say?
It's a long story. some trans stuff is getting sorted out between us. I am not pushing for anything really other than the sleeved hub that was supposed to be in the trans, which he is sending along with a set of clutches. I won't demand anything more and he isn't obligated to provide anything more, I just don't operate like that.

Mike I don't blame you, I knew there would be stuff that I would want to change and my ocd would force me to clean up some stuff, but I didn't expect the truck to be quite as poorly represented as it was. BUT now I have two trucks and a very good base to work from.

Sorry for your luck. Those welds, trans parts, make me instantly think what else is wrong with this truck?! Who "built"/made this mess?

I really thought that truck would have been better than that. Doesn't make all the problems I had with the built truck I bought look so bad. I'm glad your getting it worked out. Looking forward to seeing some videos

Those aren't welds at all. There's a difference in a weld and a glob of shit. That down pipe and up pipe that's just embarrassing. I hope u get it sorted out.

Ahh good choice!

I'm not fan of sleeved hubs. I don't use them especially after what I found one late night last week while trying to prepare for what Mike Graves is going to do to his trans next year :D I have a billet hub here with a design I won't even use unless it's in my own truck now.

Hope that thing never had a crank failure, you'd probably find those welds holding the crank together lol. That does suck though man, I'm sure you spent good money for supposedly a good truck. Glad you're gettin it worked out.

You forgot the excellent electrical work none of which did any justice for the fuse panel inside the for which we forgot to take pics of.
