Its only good for 6000m+/- It has a walking system for the pad we are on
these wells are 4600m and finished up with 4" pipe 56 loads

There are a few bigger rigs around this area and one of them is 127 loads
and rated to drill +/- 10000m:eek: It has 3 elevators to get to the floor and mud tanks

Heavy duty.

I saw some big ones when I worked for Petro Canada in the Rockies down around Banff, don't think they were up to 10,000 though. For some reason the deepest I recall is around 6000-7000.

I used to run with dad all the time when he had his oil business, then it went down in 83. Then school started and he started up with Wildcats-putting on automatic drillers on in Texas to Cali... Been sold couple times, think its Varco now.

That rig is currently the biggest rig in Canada

First post..here.

I guess it seemed fitting to place my first post here. I moved from Caglary last July..after gettin a bit antsy on the craziness of the boom.. I was there in Calgary, apprenticing as a welder/fitter (3rd yr), in 81 when Trudeaus (that Prick.!), stupidity shut er down real good back in the early eighties. Seemed to me last July that things were gonna go the same way..maybe not the same reason but crash neverthe less. So we sold and moved to Barrie.

Now am damned glad I did 'cause I kept my toys (LBZ and trailer), and ended up with my same job (Tech Sales Rep ESAB Welding Automation), bigger house and way lower debt. Had I stayed..it woulda been bankruptcy court for sure.!! or Basically sold the house/toys and pay out all the debt..left with nadda, hungry family and a beater to drive.

anyway..with Gas @ $2.80 a gig..things dont look that good for S Ab or NE BC. man oh man that is low.

things aint much better out here either although it is starting to pick up a bit..but only cause of infrastructure $$ coming into play..lots of shops doing beams and bridges..but not much else.

Hopefully those of you guys outa work will find something soon.

As an FYI: there are a cpl of shops in Sudbury looking for good qualified welders - 20-24" pipe. If you guys know of anyone willing to move..let me know, I'll pass on their resume...Just as long as they know...the $$ aint Alberta Style "middle of the boom" $40.00+ more like $25-27/hr.

cheers,

Stk

When you say rig welders...You talkin guys with a truck/lincoln SA200 on it etc...?? Cause if you are, I am floored at how low the rates for "rig" welders have gone in a cpl of yrs. wow. If not then I'm blown there are still shops paying that much.!

OK..now that I read your sig...My comments were about Alberta../ Northern Ontario Rig welders in the full blown boom of 2005/2006 in Alberta were doing well over $120.00 an hour..and many times not paying for gas or electrodes - they was supplied.! Nice coin indeed. Not anymore though. seen this before..twas why I moved.

50 bucks an hour is pretty rough if you have to pay for your own truck, gear etc.

I could be out to lunch, but I'm pretty sure Rig Welders that had their own Rocket were getting paid 90 some buck an hour, 4-10's shift by MSI Willbros up in McMurray. They didn't have to provide anything else, just show up with their truck. Fuel was free.

Also, these guys just had to get their own company going down at the registration office and then bingo bango, truck and gear is a tax write off for the company and your only paying 13% tax on whatever you make.

i finally got a job a month ago after sitting for 2 and a half months, its only working in a mod yard doing electrical (im an instrument tech) its better than nothing. Ive heard from my dad that Suncor up in Fort Mac is going to starting up again soon so i might have to jump on that so i can pay off my debts.

I think it was maybe Firebag that was going to start up again? My dad works for WorleyParsons (formerly Colt) and said they are going to go hard again. But i guess plans change everyday

Maybe, its likely that they will both resume at the same time though. Althought firebag is already an operating site, they may actually resume that sooner than voyager. The only kicker is that, they need voyageur to process the extra feed from firebag 2/3/4/5 or whatever stage they are on now...

Working right now in the NWT for E.O.G. I know alot of guys that are not working:(

I work for a underbalance drilling and seperation company

Oh boy, the statue of misery....

I worked for that now well service/drilling company down here, darn safety practices made me go back to a smaller company.

I sure hate to see so many folks without a job.
