Still trying to find some instrument work around in alberta.
Working right now in the NWT for E.O.G. I know alot of guys that are not working
I work for a underbalance drilling and seperation company
massive rig what does she pull
Heavy duty.
I saw some big ones when I worked for Petro Canada in the Rockies down around Banff, don't think they were up to 10,000 though. For some reason the deepest I recall is around 6000-7000.
I used to run with dad all the time when he had his oil business, then it went down in 83. Then school started and he started up with Wildcats-putting on automatic drillers on in Texas to Cali... Been sold couple times, think its Varco now.
I guess it seemed fitting to place my first post here. I moved from Caglary last July..after gettin a bit antsy on the craziness of the boom.. I was there in Calgary, apprenticing as a welder/fitter (3rd yr), in 81 when Trudeaus (that Prick.!), stupidity shut er down real good back in the early eighties. Seemed to me last July that things were gonna go the same way..maybe not the same reason but crash neverthe less. So we sold and moved to Barrie.
Now am damned glad I did 'cause I kept my toys (LBZ and trailer), and ended up with my same job (Tech Sales Rep ESAB Welding Automation), bigger house and way lower debt. Had I stayed..it woulda been bankruptcy court for sure.!! or Basically sold the house/toys and pay out all the debt..left with nadda, hungry family and a beater to drive.
anyway..with Gas @ $2.80 a gig..things dont look that good for S Ab or NE BC. man oh man that is low.
things aint much better out here either although it is starting to pick up a bit..but only cause of infrastructure $$ coming into play..lots of shops doing beams and bridges..but not much else.
Hopefully those of you guys outa work will find something soon.
As an FYI: there are a cpl of shops in Sudbury looking for good qualified welders - 20-24" pipe. If you guys know of anyone willing to move..let me know, I'll pass on their resume...Just as long as they know...the $$ aint Alberta Style "middle of the boom" $40.00+ more like $25-27/hr.
cheers,
Stk
