Wondering what some of your guys bad luck experiences were while working on your trucks....any bad expected things happening while doing something else?? anything thats supposed to go exceptionally easy but takes the turn for the worse?

This is evening I went to do my water pump on my lly, got down to the crank bolt. I have a large 3/4 drive breaker bar i use to break it free normally. Put it on there, started yanking then SNAP! Broke the ratchet. when it broke it slung back and smashed into the radiator poking a hole in it.

Anyone have unfortunate luck working on their rides?

I am a mechanic by trade, never have issues on customers vehicles but darned if i don't have the worst luck on all my own stuff.

^^^This is how it works for me too.

Could even help co-workers through their difficulties with ease. But try to work on my own junk...... It's gonna hit the fan!

Bad luck is how I got my first Dmax,
Had. 04 2500hd cc/sb with the outstanding LQ4 ( lol) had to do the oil pump, when pulling the pump I had to trim the lock key on the pick up tube to spin the pick up tube hold down 180degree and in doing so I dropped the bolt in the pan. Tried to fish with magnet, No DICE. Stretched the pressure spring to raise the oil pressure, buttoned it back up then drove down to chevy and traded her in. Here is a pic.

Dunno why I didn't get a Dmax earlier. Couldn't live without one now guess it's a combo if bad luck n good luck

I bought my dually as non runner was told it needed head gaskets and injectors. After removing heads in chassy I found a dropped valve had made contact with piston and tore up the head piston and cylinder. I of course pulled motor out to rebuild, put it back in to have the water pump fail as soon as I put the front end back on the truck.

Ripped the wires out of my IAT sensor when doing my egr delete. That held me up for a couple days since it happened on Saturday night and I couldn't get one until Monday or Tuesday. Lol

this happened to me. But I had to drive it home. Didn't make the truck run bad. Since I've done it I've had 4 friends rip the wires out. All done by removing intake from turbo lmao

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have NONE!

I broke a 1/2 breaker trying to get the same damn bolt free just the other day!
Most my (bad) luck is more from plain ol stupidity...

Plugged an extra rag in my intercooler once, forgot about the "extra" and buttoned everything back up...rag went straight to the #8 intake valves...

Burned my trans up towing my toy hauler back from a trip, forgot about the added weight of the black and grey water....let's just say the trailer didn't fit into the "light tow tune" parameters anymore :p

Added a VGT72 to my mix, cracked a piston in 9 days...

Had the G80 crap out 2mo after building the trans...

Was driving my golf R to get parts for the turbo swap, on the way back from the dealership there was a malfunction in the traction control system and I wound up totaling the car, haven't swung a golf club in 7mo now...and then (as mentioned) 9 days after the turbo swap I lost the engine

Tried to have a build done with a reputable vendor, I was told it'd take 5wks, 7wks later I was still hearing 3 more weeks...when I didn't get the truck running then I had to pay to have our toy hauler taken to a MX event, by a DODGE no less

6mo goes by...
Bought a used engine just to try and get the truck running, it was damaged, in my estimation had probably 250k mi (I was told it had 75k), got my money back but the experience still pretty much sucked

A month or so back, my brother and I put a new 66mm turbo on his truck to replace the stocker (which was super trashed). I was riding along with him dialing in the tuning. His CP3 is weak, so I am pulling pulswwidth so it stops draining the rail. I pull a bunch of pulse (I'd estimate ~450 HP or so), and now that it is running clean, it spins the balancer 120* on the crank. That was a b*%&@ to get removed from the cank. Took us hours.

Never heard of someone spinning a balancer less than 600 HP before. Let alone 450 HP! Talk about bad luck.

And my truck

I floored it and swerved towards a curb and he hit my trailer hitch at probly 40 mph. If I would have tried to stop I would have t boned him at 50 mph right in the drivers side because the roads were wet. His car is hurt bad and all i did was mess up my rim. Chevy 1 honda 0. LOL

Installed twins on my built truck, then floated an injector. Threw in billet hold downs, then blew off the cold IC pipe and destroyed it.Then found a broken motor mount. Really starting to doubt whether I'll drive this truck again.

Replaced my starter. Job went too easy. Something's up.....

Wife went to leave in her Yukon. Idle stuck at 2000 rpm. Scan tool says TPS reads 19% throttle at idle, and 0% everywhere else. YEE-HAW!!!!

While I was doing my head gaskets, torquing down the driver side, the torque wrench slipped and busted a valve off. So I pulled the head back off, replaced and lapped the valve. Drove the truck about 70 miles and had an injector nozzle crack. Fixed that drove it for about a month and then broke a pushrod. I was ready to burn my truck to the ground. I know the exact feeling about fixing other peoples stuff

I have bad luck with most everything as of late. My family always goes on a week vacation in January every year, this year, I was as sick as I've ever been, and ended up in the hospital. I finally got feeling better in march, so my wife and I decided to have a get away since my sickness ruined the last one.... second day of out trip I tucked the front wheel of my bike in a sand berm and broke my radial head and tore my ucl in my left arm. April I put on my twin kit and tapped my drain to close to my starter. In May I took my bike out again to ride and blew out my counters shaft seal. Fixed it and went riding the next week. I went long on a pretty big dune and wadded myself hard. Woke up with a busted nose and a shattered femur. Emergency surgery the next day. The hardware doesn't fit my leg correctly. .... the first day of physical therapy the pto nurse just drops my leg off my bed. I feel something pop and have immediate burning in my grion... huge chunk of bone is now detached and floating around in my leg. Awesome. I get back to my farming in June and suffer through the pain. First cutting of hay gets rained on. Getting ready for second crop and my hired man quits. Second cutting gets rained on. Grain and barley get rained on enough they sprout. Hay is junk. Grain is ruined. Leg isn't healing. And that pretty much sums up my year so far.

Dang^^^ can't compare there buddy!! Sorry to hear that. I had a drive shaft wod itself up at 110 loud bang and no go go. Coasted for two mile listening to her b***h that I was being stupid again and tore my truck up. She was tired of me working on it blah blah blah. All I said was poor man poor ways I guess... Needless to say I still have my truck... It had busted bell housing split the engine plate off the back of block so motor and trans was 4° from each other... She got the boot a week later. I continue to put the ole truck back together only to have my stock trans give it up. At the same time lifted injector cup.... Tore everything back apart. Built trans and converter head studs new heads blah blah blah.... Two weeks later..... Injectors.......and I'd say the lesson outta all that for me was...... They both cost ya money.... Her and the truck.... However I can pour the coals to the truck as hard as I want.... Never get yelled at.... And the next she's ready for round two.... And I can rub that truck down and it never complains... Hey fellas if working on these trucks was cheap and easy...well I won't go there... Lol

Sent from a greasy hand under the hood of my buddys truck.
