Would someone please PM me who the suspected tuner is? I can't read between the lines to figure out the riddles in here.

C-ya

Yea I sent a pm and I run his tuning, I have compared it to the tune that BOBO posted in the library at DP and it looks like it has more limiting than BOBOs tune. It shifts pretty fast, somewhat harsh but I still have stock tcm tuning.

Am I safe as long as I have stock TCM tuning??

I can't say anything about the 5 speeds, but I have seen nothing in the 06+ TCM or ECM that will disable defuel. I've adjusted everything that says defuel, and every log I've ever done clearly shows a defuel on every shift. The reason I adjusted that stuff is because when I was still running my stock trans and before EFI found the RPM tables for the LBZ ECM, I was having major defuel on my shifts because it wasn't shifting soon enough and was reaching the RPM limit. No matter what I tried, even after the RPM tables were found, I still showed defuel on my shifts. Until someone shows me a log where an LBZ does not defuel (and I mean it doesn't pull tq ref), I think it's a myth, but I would love for someone to prove to me otherwise.

The 6-speed TCM does not use a tq limiting and base tq table it uses a different approach..........;)

I have only been playing around with the ecm tuning a little bit, the tcm was adjusted by the software for the shift correction only.

I have logs that show a defuel from my LBZ, but it was pretty easy to fine tune it for some nice quick shifts.

The answer I give everyone is this, if you run another persons tune and it was not for your specific truck and its a freebie, meaning you got it from a friend who got it from a friend tune you are playing with fire.

As Mike L. stated a lot of guys have jumped into the tuning business in the last year or so and are doing the tuning via e-mail on the cheap, whoring the market out. They get a tune from somewhere, tweak it a little, claim it's 500 HP and sell it for $50..........:D

I wonder why someone spends $40K on a truck, $5-10K modding it and then looks to destroy it with free or almost free tuning ??? There is a reason why you get what you pay for, as members find out the hard way when someone disables a defuel or rpm limiting request you get a $$$$$ bill for a broken transmission or a blown engine.

Shops like Mike L, Dipper, Trippin, Burhardt, etc pick up the pieces from this kind of crap !!! And the customer is pissed after doing something twice.

I just had to fix a TCM tune on another big build truck that was shifting poorly and sure enough the two tables D5196/D5197 were all screwed up !!! That is the first question I ask when I get a call for a poorly shifting truck.

But it is America and a free country, now I don't run around claiming to be the best, but I have been trusted by people with very expensive builds and very fast trucks that are living under huge power.

I also fly around the USA and Canada all year tuning trucks that most do not ever hear about, I don't get that privilege by accident, and I don't fell the need to brag about it either.

I feel bad for whoever has run a altered TCM tune, that tune was a BETA tune and "someone" let it out and posted it as a fix for great shifts..........

This should not happen, Mike L has warned people forever about the need for some defuel in tune, maybe now people will listen.

:(

What about defuel at light throttle? I am trying to see what the stock tuning does for defuel and copy that. Its hard to tune it becuase it seems like you put a value in the torque limiting table and that is what it commands during the shift.

Been watching today, mines pulling 8-10mm3 of fuel on the shifts normal driving.

I think im putting stock shifting back in today.
I trust the TCM I have, but its not worth risking it with a 385rwhp tune.

Lots of great info here.

Tony,

Are you saying don't make any changes to D5196 and D5197 or the changes that are being made are too drastic??

Agreed, good info in this thread. I am not a big fan of TCM tuning except RPM changes for pulling.

Thanks,
Ed

My tcm tuning is stock except that I raised the torque limits above 3200rpm incase I want to shift at higher rpms.

I just don't get how much defuel the shift needs? Like a percentage of fuel to pull back? Does the percentage need to be increased at torque increases?

My shifts on my scIII feel fine except it does the 3-4 double shift. If the shift is completing in the time it is supposed to be completed and is smooth you should not have a problem right?

My wot shifts were defueling about 10-15mm3 from 100mm3, ive now lowered them about 10-15 more mm3 and im going to see what it does.

It looks like the stock tune only defuels to about 90mm3 from 100mm3 on WOT shifts?

Not to answer for Tony because he would no more than myself , but if your after less defuel then it should be done in the ECM not the TCM , still even when done in the ECM there are no garentee's if its not setup wright . only thing changed in my tcm tune is shift points . only Rob knows what is in the ECM side , But it shifts nice :cool2:

I got my tunes when i bought EFI live. I no longer run this tuning but it was to late the damage was done. My RPM limiting was disabled in my TCM tuning. I learned the hard way. Dont trust everyone. I just wanted to pass the message on. I tried to catch you last time you were down here Tony. I talked to Dipper but i was to late calling him back and missed you.

I understand the ECM is king Trent. I was just wondering because the 2nd gear start tune that has been posted on here before from Wendy has those tables monkeyed with and I was curious if that is a dangerous tune to run.

Wendy has had great luck with the 2nd gear launch... but Russ on the other hand has reversed the fins on his 1057 twice? Just like Mike has said no 2 trucks are identical in anyway. I personally wouldn't use it... is .1 of ET worth wasting a converter?
