I'm having the same problems as Travis, Ben, and Trent. The only difference is I have a Co-Pilot. Without the Co-Pilot on, my converter won't lock until over 60 mph.

i am going to try a few things in the tcm ... in my case i cant say that its hurting me or not , i dont feel much of a difference when it locks (WOT any way) mine still seems to be coupling well i can light up the tires in the lower gears still ? like i said i know its not locked but cant see that its hurting my 1/8 mile but it might be .

Let's take a poll and see what converter everyone is having this problem with.

1055 for me but like i said cant say its a problem truck still feels great .

edit: just checked....last time out 1/8 mile was 7.70 @ 90.94 mph on a 1.81 60 , i cant imagine its hurting my truck anyways .

Not laying any blame here just process of elimination. Next we will poll tunes and tuners.
It would be cool if one of you guys had a Tech 2 hooked while this happens and sees if the command was given and ignored or command not given at all.

i have one at work i can bring home 1 weekend... for my truck anyway . also for poll on tunning... its mine with some tweeks by idaho rob ... stock tcm other than shift points .

Ive watched the tech 2 plenty of times and have a lockup LED. The command is simply not given until ~50-55mph and somewhere at the bottom/middle of third gear. SOMETIMES it locks as soon as it shifts into third, sometimes it looks at me crosseyed. It most certainly does not lock at 25mph in second gear like the stupid TCM tune says it should.

WHEN the command is finally given and the f-trim solenoid duty cycle ramps on (according to the tech 2), the converter always locks right away. IE, its not a mechanical problem. Its a problem of the TCM being stupid and not allowing converter lockup until it feels like it. :(

it would be nice if we knew what peramiters have to be met before the tcm will cammand lock up . i wonder if ross or cindy can tell from the tcm files ?

mine is also a 1057, i am going to log mine in a few days and see whats going on, my buddy(DURAMAXPOWERED) also had issues at the track last friday; he was loosing rail psi and the tcc would not lock up until later, even with t/h, HIS IS ALSO A 1057

I have the ATS 5 star, it locks and seems "normal" with and without the co-pilot. You sure can feel the lockup either way tho. My .02

How about a pin number to wire up the lock up light, this way I know when it locks and I am not going by the feel.

I would have to say that some of my problem is in the tuning. I just dont know where:confused:

Mine locks just fine on the street. It's only drag racing do I ever have it's not lock. When it does lock, it locks hard for sure.

With a 4wd boosted launch it makes no difference if my copilot is on....off..level 3.....right two lights lit.....right light lit (should be race mode)...or if I push the ^ button and all the light flash (for sure race mode).

Like I said, I have some tuning stuff to play with this week, we'll see what happens.

What do you consider "normal"?

See log pic above, it goes to 3600+ in first and second gear and dicks around locking.........that's a stock TCM tune too.



EDIT: Actually that 1-2 shift is at 3590 rpm, max RPM in 2nd gear during the little "episode" is 3699 in that log

Mine is a 1058.

mine is also a 1058. I have tried every trans tune from stock to whatever, will not lock in 2nd or 3rd with a 4wd boost launch. I've finally got it to lock in 4th and 5th, wasn't doing that either from time to time.

As far as an engine tune, running twins I am not even sure it'll run with a stock tune, but I may try today. I have tried several of Robs tunes and they all have the same lockup problem. I have put all the defuel back in also, no affect. I have tried three different operating systems, no affect. I'm confident in his tuning. He has seen these issues also, said the 1058 is one of the most consistent with having the lockup issues when racing, but others are as well.

They will also unlock at a downshift and not re-lock until 4th and 5th gear. This would be like cruising at 50 mph, fifth gear, converter locked. Go wot to pass, downshifts to 4th and unlocks the converter until some period into 5th gear again, even though I've tried lowering the lock applys for 4th (and lower gears). If you prevent downshifting it'll hold lock all the time. Go to tow/haul in 2nd and then go wot at 16-20 mph before it upshifts to third and it won't downshift to first and stays locked through all gear. Check out a datalog and see the several tenths in et this gains, at least on my truck. Would love to get this figured out.

EDIT: Went and loaded a 50 hp tow tune (closest thing to stock I had for my new OS). Did a full throttle launch and it still would not lock the converter in 2nd and 3rd gear, even with wot lockup commanded at 18 mph. Then I loaded the stock Allison tcm tune in with the same tow tune, and same thing, no 2nd or 3rd gear lock under wot from a standing start.

So again, three different operating systems, mild 50 hp to full blown twin race tune, and everything from bone stock tcm tuning to fully modded by me tcm tuning, and the results are always the same; no wot lock in 2nd and 3rd gear when drag racing. Locks perfectly at any throttle less than 100% tp. I'm really leaning towards the converter as much of the issue (1058 in my case) as with the power in the toilet on that tow tune and full defuel it still won't lock up.

Firstly - I launch in 2nd and have a 1058

Looking at some logs I see that whether or not the TC locks in 2nd depends on how hard I launch.

If I launch soft (2060rpm) then it won't couple as hard (24mph = 3428rpm) up to 28mph when it locks while still in 2nd.

If I launch hard (2800rpm) then it will be coupling harder (25mph = 3280rpm) but it won't lock up in 2nd, and locks in 3rd at 55

This is the same day, same ECM and TCM tune, with plenty of time in between runs to let the fluid cool. For what it's worth I ran .09 faster on the hard launch. That day I ran a 12.45 (the soft launch), a 12.36, 12.37, and another 12.36. So besides my soft launch it ran consistant on the other 3 hard launch runs.
