Sump and cat filter install---knock off filters?

I was doing some research last night and ended up purchasing a sump as well as a filter head to converter to cat filters while ditching the factory fuel filter/filter head setup. My goal is to see how far I can push my regular filter-less fass 150 with my dual 85% cp3's and new 175% injectors.

I purchased a Napa #4770 filter head as well as 1 Cat 1r-0750 filter for $55. While looking for the best prices on extra filters I came across a company selling CTP brand fuel filters with the same 1r-0750 part number. They look the same on the outside but am curious if anyone has any info on this brand of filters? They are selling for $9.99 each with reasonable shipping. I can have a 4 pack shipped to my door for $52.

Here is a link to the product.

I know cheap isn't usually the way to go, but if the quality is there....why not?

I know you can get a Napa filter that will cross reference with the 1-R 750. It was actually more money than the Cat though. I get mine from the local Cat dealer and I think they are around $18 each. I usually buy 6-8 of them at a time so I have some on hand.

I get the CAT filter for less than $10 each from our local dealer. I've wondered about the no water seperator deal on the nicktane adapters. Tons of people use them and doesn't seem to be a problem.

I'll have to give my local cat dealer a call and see what they charge for the filters.

And those are my thoughts exactly, lots of people up them. Although my fuel system was slightly expensive, my luck is I'd get that one bad tank of fuel and ruin everything.

I ran the single cat filter for 2 years with no issue until adding a primary filter under the bed. But like you say it only takes one batch of bad fuel..

Mike Diesel, when you drill the tank for the sump couple things.

Use a new sharp hole saw, the more teeth the better 20 TPI minimum if you have one.

Extend the pilot bit out to 3/4" past the holesaw

Start the hole in reverse rotation with a variable speed reversing drill.

You don't want to end up with a hole like this one.....

Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind. I'd be rather upset if I screwed my tank up.

I just remembered I have another filter head already that accepts a 1" -12 filter. Lookingg online it seems the baldwin bf5813 has a water seperator on it. I may run them in line together, but now I fear I'm going back to what I'm trying to get away from....restriction.

It appears that baldwin filter can be ran as a primary filter... quick Google search doesn't yield a micron rating for the baldwin filter though.

Yeah, new hole saw fer sure...and use very little pressure to drive it, I just let the hole saw barely scrape at the surface and it only took 15sec...and be careful of the sending unit in the tank. When the tank is empty the sensor is right there on the bottom and will be behind the front side of where the hole will be for the sump...was on mo LBZ anyways with the sump at the lowest point in the tank, about dead center iirc

I would put the sump in the back of the tank. Just think where all the fuel goes when you launch your truck. It don't stay in the front...
That's where I put mine, as far back as I could.
Makes sense, but, what happens when you stop suddenly and then suck some air when the tank is low...
Well when you are doing that you aren't on the throttle, so nothing will happen. The pump will get a little air, which will mostly get diluted in the filter.

The cat filters do have a cellulose layer that blocks out water and still allows fuel to pass. The main difference between that and the Donaldson filter is that the Donaldson has a drain for it and a 1 micron difference. as long as you don't ignore the maintenance on your fuel filter I wouldn't worry at all about running the cat.
