Hey guys glad to be part of the forum. Just replaced my Alli rear housing without pulling the trans. Tried to pay attention to park pawl and such. Installed MA trans brace and did the MA pump rub fix and a MA trans mount. Lost about 2 quarts when I removed the cracked rear housing. After all work completed, I added about a quart of fluid and started the vehicle no problem. Truck will not move forward without revving the engine up and a slight delay. Fluid reads almost to the top of the cold hash marks on the cold side. Trans has all new fluid (Amsoil low viscosity). When I checked the fluid the second time there was smoke coming out of my trans fluid dipstick tube??? Uh oh. Tried to pay very close attention to MAs website instructions via their website for the pump rub upgrade. At a loss for where to go from here please help!!! Only other fishy thing I noticed was someone had like siliconed my NSBU plugs in. We're extremely hard to remove. All connections checked and checked again. No codes other than wheel speed sensor for both left and right. Thanks in advance!

Oh and thanks to Steve @ SSdieseltuning for great service and pricing on my parts he was great to deal with! I'll get my sig and avatar uploaded soon just kinda bus

I cant help you with trans issue, but the plugs on the NSBU switch are always a pain to get out, I had to heat mine up to get them out. The factory puts some kind of sealant or something on the plugs

Pulling the trans out is a MUST to replace the extension housing properly. Otherwise it is IMPOSSIBLE to check the C-5 clutch clearance and end thrust properly. not to mention the risk of one of the torrington bearings dropping down in the process and FUBARing the whole trans. My advice(and what most builders will also tell you) is to pull the trans and see what went wrong. Quite a few have been able to pull the swap off without pulling the trans, but of those few I would say a good percentage of them end up losing there trans down the road and don't talk about it because they don't want to admit they screwed up. So pull it out and fix it before it grenades on you.

You were doomed from the start changing the tail housing in the truck.

Russian roulette. How lucky do you feel? 95% chance of failure. I tried it a couple of years ago with my top tech. We spent an hour fighting it and finaly got it. I thought. The trans was coming out anyways for a build. Upon tearing down the back end; I found a Torrington bearing cocked. It would have blown up sooner or later.
Be carefull guys.

In drive the truck will not move forward without additional throttle. Press the pedal and a few seconds later it pulls forward and the same situation is true of reverse. I came to Clint's house tonight to try and help diag what's going on here. Where do you all think we should go from here?

I guess I should have joined the forum about a week ago when I started this project. Thank you all for the quick responses. I will start checking around for a good trans shop that can get it back together properly. Any additional info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again guys.

So everyone agrees he needs to pull the trans and rebuild it while its out? Was hoping for suggestions moving forward instead of so many "I told you so's". Don't mean to sound rude, just hoped a new member would get more help than this.

He got honest advice. A transmission is not built horizontally and as others have stated its very easy to have a bearing fall out of place as that's the way gravity wants it to go. It sounds like its bound up in the rear end in that you are describing resistance in forward and reverse gears. Pull it out and tear the back end apart. If a bearing let go in there, pull it all the way apart. When those bearings let go it is UGLY. You can destroy lots of hard parts by trashing a bearing.

Thanks for your reply. I feel bad for Clint and just want to see him get good help and tech info. After all I'm the one who promised him this was the site to be on and learn from the best of the best.

You didn't say anything wrong Mike. I wanted him to have your help in particular actually. For everyone to jump in and say multiple times he should have pulled the trans was already in the back of his mind a while ago. I warned him too. He just needs to figure out where to go moving forward he already acknowledges his mistake, reminding him of it don't help him. Thanks for posting here Mike, I hope maybe you can suggest a plan going forward. Again don't mean to come off rude or anything, Im just trying to help him. Can he give you a call Mike?

I wasn't trying to say anything bad, but so many out there take the advice of those who say it can be done in the truck. And MANY of these people won't admit that they did it that way and 6 months later it grenade on them because the torringtons dropped out of place and it chewed up itself. I know over at DP there are some that still swear it can be done and that they just weren't careful enough when they did theres. I was only trying to stress how critical it is that he does not drive it until he fixes the problem.

I completely understand. Thanks for posting. Last night we were a little anxious, nervous, frustrated, and mad all in one. Sorry if I seemed overly defensive. Clint appreciates you guys explaining why it was wrong to do what he did. We will be pulling his trans soon I'm sure. He has had great luck for the most part with this truck. 04 LB7 with almost 170k miles on the original sticks and no white smoke!
