so went to machine a hole in the end of the shafts, and dam are those some hard shafts. Got the hole in the impeller side just fine and then went to do the gear side, and broke 4 carbide cutters as soon as it touched the surface. Looks like I'm gonna be stuck with just welding the ends. Let me know if you guys have any other tips before I get ready to put it back together. And do you thing MIG or TIG would be better?

I have had pretty good luck TIG'ng them , I usually drill 3 holes into the face of the cast impeller right next to the shaft , submerge the pump in water as far as you can except for the area your welding so you can burn it really hot with out hurting the seals , then weld the holes first so they act like pins making sure the penetration is into the main shaft and then burn over the top of the whole seem ,I use a stainless rod, I haven't had one fail yet but not for a minute saying they wont.

Right on man, I'll give that a try. We tried milling down the middle of the seem but that center shaft is harder then shit. Thanks for the tip. Hopefully I can get it welded soon, Already tired of not having my pickup running and its only been a week and half.

I had one fall off too about 10 minutes after I installed it. Took it back to the store and they bought the pump and the housing.

Good luck. Pump is much better than HGs.

.

I couldn't agree more:D. But hopefully I didn't get it hot enough to screw something else up when I had it running trying to figure out what the hell was wrong:(.

Well I got the pump all welded, and stuffed back in the truck. So far so good. Also any idea on someone maybe making a rebuild kit for them with a keyed shaft and keyed gear and impeller. I thought of maybe taking a couple pumps and tearing them down and machining the shafts and keying everything. :thumb: Let me know what you guys think?
