I picked up an '87 C10 short wide earlier this week, and I've been going back and forth about what I want to do with it. I already put some fat tires on the stock 15x8 rally wheels and did a poor man's lowering job by cutting the front coils and removing a few leafs and installing some drop shackles. Now I have it sitting nice, and I ran across a deal on an '05 Silverado with a good running 4.8 that I just couldn't pass up. I'm really looking forward to dropping this engine and transmission into the '87. I've always loved this body style trucks and have always wanted a hot rod LSx truck. Now I get both! Here's a pic of the truck as it sits now.

Looks like a good start, and definitely a great body style. How much work are you planning to do to the 4.8? I'm sure its going to rip when you get her all buttoned up!

Eventually I'd like to have a decent set of heads, a good turbo cam, and a 475 on it with a 4L80E, but for now, it's just going to be stock with the 4L60E that's bolted to the 4.8 right now.

I've got a sweet used LS2 bare block sitting here, needs .005 to make the cyl walls perfect...6.0L aluminum block vs that puny 4.8L iron block...more cubes and less weight...you know you want it ;)

I've also got the complete running gear from an 06 TBSS AWD... :D
4.10's, 10.5" rear...4L70E, transfer case and ft diff...cool thing is these parts were all put together by GM to be in a heavy pig

Josh, an ALUMINUM BLOCK 376 OR 402CI pushing your C10 down the road with AWD confidence...sooo baller.

Buy all my stuff so I can have the space back!
Please
Lol

That sounds awesome! But I'm too cheap and broke for a build like that.

You should race your Dads 396 against the truck when the swap is complete. Down that one way service road. Cough cough:D

Nice truck man. Square bodies are the best gm body style. I want to drop a dmax in my 78 short wide but leaning more towards a cheaper ls swap.

I have an 86 K10 that I did a 6.0 Lq4/4l80E swap in and 3/4 axels with the 14 bolt disc brake rear from the 04 2500HD and its is the shit. turbo going on this winter if I have time. best thing I ever did to the old girl. let me know if you need any ideas or parts sourcing I've done 3 of these now. Love LS swaps.

LOVE the square body chevy.

How much do you have into them so far?!
Paid $2k for the '87 and $1k for the donor. I have about $750 in tires and shocks and tune up parts that I wasted money on since I'm yanking that motor out but whatever.

I'm doing all sorts of research on what to do for mounts, oil pan, fuel tank/pump, radiator, etc. I'd be interested in hearing what you've used and had good luck with. I'd like to keep the transmission in the same location for now, so I want motor mount plates that don't move the motor from the stock location. I'm also thinking about doing a rear mounted single gas tank instead of the dual saddle tanks in the truck now.

That would be awesome! :thumb:

I will do that tomorrow. I have a K10 and did a C10 79' so I have both covered. My cruise works, air works, 86 radiator, very little mod to the frame, ( just for the exhaust on pass side) also just addressed how easy the power steering is with the LS pump on the old gear box. That made it nicer to drive. The steering was so easy there was no feedback from the road. And of doing a 4wd I know the options for getting VSS to the ECM and what T cases to use. So yeah I'll start a thread. Lol
