I only ever burp a little cloud out to "wave hello" :hello: to someone I know. My truck might get driven a couple times on the weekend and virtually never gets hotrodded around anymore so I don't really blow smoke anymore. Can't say I never did as a younger man though. But I have NEVER smoked out an entire road or intersection or cyclists or motorcyclists, or blown it in car windows (with exception to 1 asshat that deserved it) or people walking/jogging or bus stops or any other generally disrespectful and bullying way. Just used to hotrod around and leave a cloud lingering. :woott:

I do like to do the little blip to say hello to a fellow diesel enthusiast (kind of like the Harley or Jeep wave) or to let them know that mine ain't stock either. :thumb:

This. As long as my tune can do that I'm happy. A little smoke pre-boost is always handy.

Haha yes I knew I wasn't the only one that did this. Been doing this for 8+ years now. Funny it happens with people I've never even met but we recognize each a others rigs

.... ok but technically how does it work and does it waste fuel?

I just want to know as I am always in a quest for knowledge.

I've always like the lope tunes but I've heard they're hard on the truck. Can anyone explain that too?

Why do people like lope tunes?

A 12v Cummins with a chit load of fueling sounds good too but it would be nice to be able to turn it off.

I suppose I like them because I grew up on gassers. Nothing beats the sound of a big block Chevy with a big cam.

The lope tunes on the dmax got popular because they sound like a nasty cummins loping as they come up on RPMs at the line. IIRC its created on a dmax by ramping up rail pressure at idle, I think that speaks for itself why that can be hard on things doesn't it?

The smoke tunes are written 1000 different ways I'm sure but ultimately, its an increase of low-boost fueling or just simply overfueling. I reckon the biggest danger is elevated EGTs. I'd imagine it'd take a long smoke session for the EGTs to get to a dangerous level though but I have no idea because I've never had one. The high HP tunes I run only smoke until boost is built, they won't just sit there in park and blow smoke like I've seen done recently. I don't really know how those tunes are written but its still a matter of too much fuel for the given amount of air resulting in thick black smoke.

Lope tunes are easy, go into your throttle based inejction table and insert 50 for 0% throttle and 600 RPM's. Will make it lope like crazy. Ramping up rail pressure can give you a slight lope, but the throttle based change is the one that makes the rapid lope.

I still like a lope in my tune lbz sounds nasty with them. Hell the LB7 does it on its own..

I use to smoke some guys out with my max effort, but I was young and dumb. Now when pulling a trailer I will roll on the throttle to prevent a smoke out. And I putt around when empty so I don't smoke much.

It's like everything you grow and realize how stupid it is! BUT when you were doing it long ago it was funny and many including my self did it numerous times and encouraged it. Their was nothing like smoking out a bunch of bicycle riders hogging up the road! Or a jogger or some idiot on the highway to some innocent bystander waiting for the bus. :D

BUT if you were ever the recipient as I was on my motorcycle aint to funny then! Believe me!
