Just keep the timing stock (basically 0 degrees, even less if you want) and ramp in as much fuel as you have the balls for. Keep in mind, excess fuel will create a LOT of heat, wash down your cylinder walls, and do all sorts of other wonderful things to your engine. Usually, any time you see black smoke, there is excess fuel.

And as many people have said, it doesn't help the reputation of diesels out any.

Any reason you wouldn't go with a clean, powerful tune and smoke the tires instead? That usually gets more attention, IMO, and doesn't make diesels look as bad.

You have to understand that most of the guys here are on the other end of the spectrum. Most of them are worried about diesels getting bad press and an even bigger black eye that they already have. States like Cali have REALLY tightened up there emissions testing due to people having smoke tunes and using them in town and smoking people out. Cops have even started pulling guys over now for it as it can cause an accident on the road for other drivers behind you. So most have tryed to keep to cleaner tunes that keep the bad publicity away, and are better for your engine. I've made a couple of tunes here lately for people and have actually had them complain because my tunes are just to clean for them, but that is how I do my tuning. Never had a complaint about any of them not having the power they wanted from them, or them not being smooth though. I'm sure you can see from my sig pic that these things can absolutely roast the tires, and yet the engine will be almost completely smokeless. This is how most people are trying to tune now.

You know, at one point in time young in our diesel lives we were just like this guy...im sure none of you were but at least i was and many people i know. We thought smoke was power and was cool... now it is a entirely different story but all going in to say this; This should be a forum that explains our reasoning for WHY WE HATE SMOKE TUNES instead of bashing the guy that has not gotten to our knowledge of its affects yet. Really sucks seeing a new guy come in here that was just like we were in one point in time and get bashed on instead of helped. To the guys that are helping him to understand and explain our thoughts on smoke tunes...thanks...to the others, how about try and get some confidence elsewhere..not only does smoke tunes make diesels look bad, but dickheads that bash on unacknowledged people on our forums do also. Just as much as i hate "smoke tunes" do i hate people being dicks because it is the thing to do. I totally understand the frustration of people wanting smoke tunes, as it frustrates me...just trying to say instead of bashing on a guy that doesn't understand yet, try and help him with understanding smoke is not the way to go.

Hope everyone has a good monday!

ATS tuner you have is a great tool for the price and what you can get for racing or towing or mpg somewhat. Each owner does what they do so I don't tell anybody what to not do. Dyno that tuner if you have time for a little fun, it shows you some baseline outputs that can surprise when you see it on paper and values of the dyno. Duramax is fun when you custom tune and go twin turbos, dual CP3s, etc. Still used for daily type truck with all those choices of use. I love EFI since it's finally in and we're learning it's capabilities. Hell just enjoy the ATS is the point it has alot in it.

if one wanted to do it and be somewhat "safe" on the stock tranny you could always use max fuel limited vs speed and narrow it down to say 30mph or so :) ...just sayin
