Welcome! I ran a PPE standard in this truck before for 3 years and loved it. Make sure you get a pyrometer and boost gauge and don't go past the 90 horse tune unless you want to upgrade your transmission. 150 horse if your foot isn't heavy.

I think for someone who is just looking for an all around tuner and monitor edge is a good way to go and its safe for the most part! Plus you can pick them up fairly cheap from someone who is jumping into the hobby alittle deeper! just my thoughts! Its easy and functional for the average joe who just wants a little more pep out of there daily.

AND Welcome!

edge is good if you want it to cut out your motor and loose power steering and power brakes manual steering and brakes are fun been there done that

most all of us started like u. i know i did. i started with a cheap programmer and went from there but if u wanna save some money in hte long run efi live is the way to go ppe is great for someone that isnt that good with computers and learing to tune. like mentioned anything over a 90 hp tune and well lets just say get ur trans built. twin turbo's is a great way to go along with a built trans thats just my opinion. im sure the others will chime in its all on ur budget

Ok, not a edge fan... Cutout as mentioned above. Main reason, most guy's lumber around on 1 or 2, then they see someone they want to race, bam level 5 or 6, transmission can't learn the power fast enough & ties up JMOP.

:spit: It's Burn Down, I'm only 36 not quite burnt out yet:hug:.

Well first thing I would do, would be to look up a member by the name of Mikahttp://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/member.php?u=1559. He is building some wicked bad ass rides over in your neck of the woods.

Start out with a box tuner, take your pick, then start saving for a transmission (I think Mika has suncoast V out of the punisher laying around).
Read and ask questions. Your attitude is good so most everyone on the site will be willing to jump in and offer advice/help.

I you do not want to do the transmission right away, stick with the box tuners.

I know I will probably get flamed......

Banks makes some nice stuff, it is just expensive to buy new. I started with a Banks Six-gun bundle w/ PDA. It was just right for me when I started. The only thing I am still using is the exhaust system. All the rest of the parts have gone by the wayside in the quest for more power.

The nice thing about the Banks stuff is they do a great job of protecting you from yourself. It will defuel the truck when the trans starts to slip. This reduces the performance, but also delays the trans rebuild.....I said DELAYS, not eliminates. I smoked my trans with the Six-gun on level 5 of 6, but I had a slide in camper in the back...oops....my bad...

I am not recommending buying a new Banks, try to find one used. You can really save some $$$. You also need to look into an exhaust system of some sort with any tuner. All of these will raise your EGT's if you don't open up the exhaust.

The edge, banks, and others usually only work well with stock air and fueling parts. If you modify the turbo, injectors, CP3, etc, you should go to EFILive.

Good luck and welcome to the site. :welcome3:

I wish I would have started here when I first started playing with my truck.:thumb:

On my first Dmax, I started with the Edge. I liked it, only limped my tranny once while racing someone and holding it full throttle into 5th. I left it on level 5 pretty much always.
Switched to PPE when I wanted more power, it's a great product. Didn't limp my tranny with that because I let off for the 4-5 shift.
I would recommend either product. Get gauges and an exhaust. Start saving for a tranny.

I will have to agree with your comment but I think its only fair to support the supporting vendors of this site as there are many established tuners here that pay to advertise here..... (Ripmf666) creatures of the night does offer the mentioned tuning.

vabis74 check into the candy store here and check out the products the guys here offer. Welcome aboard

the OP says that he has an LB7 and has done NOTHING to it. even before you get any tunes into the truck, i would get an cold air intake (or at least do a air box mod) and an exhaust.

1.intake
2.exhaust
3.tuner
4.trans (esp if you get EFI LIVE)
in that order.

i know some may opt to get the trans before the tuner if they forsee EFI LIVE in their future. i didnt though. lasted... ummm. a little while

I disagree, I would mod the air box, (free) get a efi, and pull the muffler off the stock exhaust (cheap).
