I know they aren't all that special anymore since they are becoming pretty common, but I figured I'd post mine since I hate how Facebook has pretty much killed forums and build threads.

Not much to look at right now and progress usually comes in short spurts followed by long periods of working on other people's vehicles, so don't hold your breath.

How she started, 03 LB7 work truck that came from Texas a few years before.

I sold/traded the long bed before I was ready to start and sold the Kodiak, so it was my daily driver without a bed for a while. Found a clean short bed about 4 hours south, so I threw the gooseneck hitch back on and made her work for her supper. When I pulled up the guy got all worked up because he thought I wasted his time because the bed wasn't going to fit on my truck. :D

Then what seemed like forever later, I had a window while I was waiting on parts for other trucks and I pulled it inside.

Then I spent WAY more time than I had estimated to clean/remove the factory lap up and make it look factory, but it was worth it.

Started burning it in.

Got anxious and had some buddies come over and help me get the bed flipped over and off the trailer.

Threw the rearend back under it to measure for the driveshaft. Took the overload out and put a 2"drop shackle in.

I had intended to keep a 2 piece driveshaft since it was 2wd, so that's what I measured for. Took the rearend back out, took the leaf springs off the rearend (needed to put the new aluminum bushings for the Caltracs in them) and loaded it all up in the parts runner. Took it to the driveshaft shop, they said no dice on the 2 piece, took it all back to the shop, put it together and measured for a one piece driveshaft, then took it all back apart, then went and dropped the parts off. Slightly irritating. Then I removed the carrier bearing crossmember since it wasn't needed anymore.

Fully welded and cleaned up. 2nd row of bed mounts moved forward and welded on.

Couldn't ever find a set of factory short bed hangers (at a decent price and in good shape), so she got new ones from GM. Then some fresh undercoat.

Rearend and leaf springs back under it with the beginnings of the Caltracs.

Driveshaft back made from repurposed parts. 2wd doesn't have a slip yoke at the trans, it's at the carrier bearing, so I had them take the slip yoke and flip it around and use it at the very front front of the driveshaft and retube the whole thing. Plus new u-joints. I thought it worked out pretty slick.

Finishing the odds and ends: made new mounts for my lift pump, sumped a factory short bed tank, shortened brake line, shortened the exhaust, Caltracs

In the middle of this my shop truck blew up and I was driving a borrowed truck from a buddy, plus I got parts in and had a trans to build, so putting the bed on got put on the back burner. The responses I got were "it looks the same as before". I was excited.

Bought a project LBZ dually in Houston and had a buddy moving down there, so I ran loaded both ways. You better believe I'll still tow with this. No overloads and haven't done the bag mounts yet, so she does squats now. Always necessary to stop at In-N-Out.

Then one day I needed something positive going on, so I drilled the new bed mount holes and threw the bed on. My shop partner's RCSB 1500 we built makes it look even taller than it already is.

I decided I wanted the bed gap closed up a little bit more (a trick we used to do on custom builds) so I slotted all the bed mount holes and slid it forward about 1/2". I like it.

I'm moving out of my shop at the end of August, so there won't be any progress until after that. Then it will get painted and maybe finally I'll throw my SLT Yukon interior in it. Eventually it will get lowered more and wheels.

Thanks guys. Haven't done anything other than take the front flares off and put the good looking tow mirrors on. Trying to get moved out of my commercial butilding and then it's time for body workwork and paint.

Went and fetched a 4wd frame for the dually yesterday a few hours away.

Well, I decided to burn a chunk of vacation last week and go see my brother from another mother Matt Woertz at Blackout Diesel Performance in Corydon, IN since that's the only way I can manage to work on my own stuff. :woott:

So, I spent a week squatting in one of his bays and helping with race trucks before the ADD race at US 60 last weekend. I sent/took a bunch of parts to work on my truck, but moonshine and guns and White Castle and race trucks got the best of us (like usual) and we played more than I worked on my truck.

But we did go through my very hurt trans, using a combo of Alto/Raybestos clutches and a new DPC converter, I put my new LBZ CP3 in (it's been sitting here in a box for years now) and had Kory update my tunes. I had planned to do a bunch of rear suspension setup and weight reduction, but ran out of time. Friday night I welded the rear diff up solid, knocked the leaf spring pack down to 2 leafs and threw Ranchos and slicks on the back. Didn't get time to set it up at all. I wanted to cut out the spare tire crossmember, remove my gooseneck and relocate the shocks behind the axle...but it didn't happen. Put it on the trailer and took it to the race.

This was with 1/2 tank of fuel, stock wheels all around, about 100 lbs of shit that I later cleaned out of the cab (no joke), still has the gooseneck in and spare tire crossmember. Only thing I pulled was tailgate, rear bumper and receiver hitch. I'd say it was probably pretty close to 5300 with 1/4 tank, cab cleaned out and slicks on the back.

My first past was my best pass (8.16 at 87 mph with a 1.95 60 ft) but I had the suspension way too soft (I think). I was getting really bad wheel hop trying to warm the tires up, so I couldn't get the tires warm and didn't get shit for traction. I haven't been on a drag strip in the better part of 5-10 years, so to be perfectly honest I was just more concerned at first with just getting the truck down the track without doing something stupid. After I made a few passes and got more comfortable, I made some suspension changes but didn't get to run again because the track got sprayed with coolant and they cancelled the rest of my bracket.







I kept taking pictures of it. I love it in race truck mode. :D

Then drove it 10 hours back to Wichita on Sunday. Welded diff makes the drive thru a little more involved, but oh well. I wish the season wasn't over so I could figure out the suspension better and make a decent pass. I wanted a 7. :(
