I have been thinking about starting this thread for a while now. Its to show off your garages and maybe give ideas to others on how they have their garages set up.

In July I bought my first house. Nice place just remodelled except for the garage.

This past month I have actually had time to start renovations on it and so far I have painted walls, ceiling, got the benches welded together and epoxy coated the floors.

Got a killer deal on a ingersoll rand 60 gal. Air compressor. It's about a year old. Think I'm going to run an auto oiler and water separator and hard line up to the ceiling and have retractibles.

Tomorrow I will be installing my new shop lights. Soon I will have 200A service out there so I can have my 240v for my welders and compressor. It's a work in progress and it's come a long way. It's starting to come together very nicely. Here's a few photos and I will try to find some before pics. The bottom pics are the most recent. This is my first garage so I'm pretty excited to call it mine. Morgan is just as excited obviously lmao.

Anyone have any experience with us general tool boxs?

Yeah they are not to bad for how cheep they are. My first box was a Horrible Freight, US General. It lasted for the 2 years i used it, but i rolled it around in the shop a lot with it and the detents on the drawers eventually wore out. It was a pain I'd make a corner and the drawers would open up! My little bro went and flipped it on its face one day!:D If you don't use it every day...or every week. A US General should do you alright:thumb: Since then i upgraded to a Snap-on Classic and then to a Snap-on Epic. OMG huge difference! But, I would never sit a Snap-on in my Garage to glance at as i run buy.

U.S. General is great for the DIY'er at home but I wouldn't buy one to have in a shop getting used 5+ days a week.

It would be alright for me then. It won't be wheeled around all the time. I work on a lot of stuff on the side. The main thing I wanted was the ball bearing drawers. The box I was looking at has them. It's not their cheapest box so it should do fine. This is the one I was looking at getting.

Installed quite a few lights yesterday. Can you say bright lol. Over the two bays I'm going to use longer lights. May buy them really bright small lamp units. They are pricey nice very bright.

Looks good.

I've got that box. I don't think I have a lot of tools but it's amazing how quick it fills up!!

What's your plan for the air? Going to run hard lines around with multiple connection locations or just run a single retractable reel near the compressor?

I would get a bigger box. They have a 11 (or 13?) drawer 56" that goes down to $699 a few times a year. I have hard was nice, but lately I have been thinking I want to get a 72" maybe. I also dont like putting the upper cabinets on boxes like this though so I'm going bigger on the lower.

I'm in bad need of more light. Im thinking 2 8'ers with quad new T5(?) bulbs. Something like 28000 lumes each, and if I need more there is always movable lights.

I've got a US general lower/upper(48" if believe) combo I've had since 2008 and have had no issues. I've also got craftsman 56" lower box. I like the craftsman box a lot more. Main b/c the draws are a lot smoother and they have cam lock drawers as apposed to the push over center ones that the US general has.

If it were me, I would keep an eye out for used snap on or matco tool box that is full of tools. You'll get a great box as well as tools. Looking back, I wished I would have done that being I'm looking at getting a snap on or matco box some day.

You can never have too much light. I'll have to get some pictures up of what I've done to give you some idea Greg.

Looks good!!!:thumb:

I plan on running hard lines from compressor to the first bay with multiple connections and one retractable in each bay.

Thanks Russell, I was curious what others have done if anything to their personal garages. I am a little ocd when it comes to my tools and garage so I want it done right the first time to avoid clutter of air lines and extension cords etc later. The more I keep hearing about us general the more I don't even want to consider one. I want it to last longer a year. I have been looking on Craigslist for a snap on or matco box but the ones I have seen was a 72 inch without tools for 2500 a 56 inch full of tools for 5700 and an epic toolbox full of all snap on tools for 30,000. That's a lot more than I want to pay lol. I have quite a few tools already but not much snap on. But I know which tools I need to get in the future so I need a bigger box. So I don't know what I'm going to do there yet.
As for the lights the t5 are what I was looking at they are 5000 lumens per lamp and 5000k on the hue. Two of them should be plenty for the bays. May end up going 8' not 100% on that. I will check prices this weekend. I completely agree you can never have too many lights. I want to see where the bolts and my tools fall rofl.

Don't forget to use drip legs at the end of the air lines, you can make an inexpensive air dryer from cast iron pipe. I have been using this setup for about 20 years and see little if any moisture at the dryer just to the right of the regulator. This is an older picture and have since added another drip leg where the air exits the tank.

I have been online here hit and miss. With the overtime they have us working at the plant and doing Cotnp on the side. We finally bought a house in Missouri to set roots out here at this plant. Seems like all we do is little updates now in the spare time but the garage is needing some updates for me. Was very dark and only one wall plug in had most of that fixed few weeks back. Have 3 of 9 led lights hung right now. Have some drywall work to do before hanging to many more just to pull down.
With trading in the Camaro since I found it was parked most of the time. The crew cab does not fit inside so the 3 car needs made larger only 30x21 also out to the front or a new bay to be wider and longer.

Atleast there's light out front now.

And inside.

Add more of these.

Think the garage doors need upgraded also there cheap and old.
Also coat the floor to make it cleaner looking.

This is the first I have heard of a drip leg. So where you have the those 4 valves pointed towards the ground, collect water? And you just open them to drain the water? And all the zigzagging is to stop the water from getting to the regulator and the tools? I'm just trying to wrap my head around this as I have never seen such a thing.

The garage definitely needs be bigger ripm. My truck barely fits in my garage with the door closed. You are lucky that yours is new construction. Much easier to add to if need be. Mine still has glass fuses and old drywall. I was pondering on the idea of all new drywall but decided against it. Sprayed it with white paint and done lol. Those three leds light it up very well in there. Another thing I see you have in your garage that I do as well is a T-maxx. I have 2 tmaxxs and a stampede nitro.

motoking_1990, don't hurt yourself thinkin' about it...:violent:

Years ago when NAPA was NAPA one of largest stores in the valley was not far from me they had a dedicated automotive paint sales area. I was in their purchasing some parts and stopped by and asked an oldtimer about some water issues we were having in out cabinet finishing booth.

He scribbled out a simple design like the one I have and explained why it works. (25 years ago) As the air is drawn from the tank the pipe acts as a passive cooler and every time the air hits a 90 degree turn the water being heavier than air "hits" the turn and drops out of the air. You'll notice the pipe is arranged for the water/moisture to drain back to the drip leg. He also told me you need a minimum of 20ft. of pipe for it to work and I'm just a little shy.

The four ball valves I only needed 2, I used to demo a lot of burnt houses back then and would salvage as I went.....

The grey fans (fan start when the compressor does) on top are needed to cool the compressor as it up against a wall and the flywheel fan is useless to force air across the 2 stage pump....

I thought thats what all the piping was for. So you haven't had any water make it to the end with this setup?

The dryer at the end of line rarely do I get any moisture when opening the petcock at the bottom. I drained the first drip leg the other day, it was an aw shit moment when I opened it under pressure. The drip leg prior to the dryer has just a touch of water/moisture....

Added this drip leg about 4 years ago, catches a little bit of water...
