Question: Should I go for it?

Hey everyone, the truck of my dreams has finally been found and I need the knowledge from this community to feel at ease with this purchase. This would be my first first diesel let alone a D-max

Here is a link to what I am looking at:

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/1291849142.html

Now I am familiar with diesels as I work with tractors all day and we put miles on them like crazy. I am not so sure how weary to be at the mileage on this baby (230k) vs the price. Coming from the gas world my logic would make me scream STOP but I know this is not the case for this drivetrain.

I guess my few questions are:

Assuming (via carfax) all maintenance was at the recommended intervals, how much should I be worried?

The previous owned obviously enjoyed the truck, hence the banks kit, but should I be worried about the strain on the transmission? AKA- Could the extra power make that allision a glass house, ready to shatter at any given notice.

The injectors HAVE been done (thankfully), but are there any other serious problems I should be on the look out for? When a truck like this which has seen some hauling through its years, what should be monitored? The seller again being awesome told me the shocks could be replaced, but because they are worn in, it softens the ride a bit which he prefers over new stiff shocks.

I did some quick browsing, but could I really expect to see 22-28 mpg out of 6.6L monster making 900 ft/lbs just from a tune/chip? I don't buy it.

Sorry for such a newb post, but it seems to be the best way I can aquire this information on a short notice so hopefully I'll be sittin high with you guys :D

I would keep looking unless your really having a hard time finding a loaded CCLB and you won't settle for a short bed. He couldn't even get almost $17K for that thing in his dreams. I would never by a truck with a turner on it other then maybe Banks they're very safe tuners. 22- 28 is total BS unless he is going down hill with a tail wind. MPG depend total on how you drive @ 70mph empty most seem to get 18 or better and city 14-15. Some do better up to 26 at the most and that is not common @ 55 MPH.

I think it's high for the miles AND being 2wd. I'd consider more than that for a 4wd with those miles but not a 2wd. Resale value will suffer IMO.

That aside, the fuel mileage is dead wrong IMO and it's most likely because he is reporting what the DIC says not knowing the Banks electronics are srewing that number up.

It does look to be a very clean truck though.

the biggest thing i would be worried about was when the injectors were replaced last. the truck is out of the 7/200K injector warrantee

20-25mpg is plausable. on the highway.. i have hit 23 pending right foot and road conditions. i avg 17-18 mixed with 35" tires too.

mine is and 02 version of that truck.

i would see if i can talk him bellow 10k

Something I noticed, I know 99-02 GM trucks got the cloth on the door panels around the lock and heated seat buttons, I have never seen an 03+ truck with it, they all seem to be vinyl? Thecarpet looks stained around the floor mats, is he trying to cover something up? Maybe no big deal but it stuck out to me.

My truck has leather seats and cloth door panels...if it matters. I think the price is kinna high myself. I think the miles are too. I'm picky though. If you are ready to buy a truck you have to look online everyday to find the good deals, and call right away. Don't settle for anything less than what you want. It sounds like your trying to talk yourself into this one...just my $.02
