Can I ask how you guys go about doing this? Is there something in the tuning that will "lock out" 1st gear, or do you simply drop it into 2nd and shift up to Drive quickly after the start?

If its the latter, Im screwed. You should see me try to bump into neutral at the end of a pull.

It's all in the tune Tom.

I've used the 2nd gear launch two different times, and both times I have reversed the fins in the converter. The passes were faster in 2nd, but not worth the hasle to bother with it anymore! I deleted the tune, so my mouse finger does not get the urge to load it:D

Was that with a 1057? Don't they like to reverse the fins when you use them for racing anyway?

Oh crap...that doesnt sound good at all.

bottom line Tom , if you arent willing to possibly lose your converter dont try it .

i will try it again someday it felt really good on the street testing it ........................ just lunched the converter before i ever tested on the track  but to tell you the truth i did a couple in a row and got the trans/converter hotter than i should have liie 230 deg , just didnt notice till it was too late .

just some food for thought .

Heck, anything we do to these trucks to go faster has the possibility of breaking something. No guts no glory, right?

The Precision MikeL in my truck has taken a whole heck of a lot of abuse for 3 years now. Shoot, my trans has occasionally shifted so harsh at the track in the past that I figured I'd break the input shaft, and it didnt.

I just wanted to try a 2nd gear launch once and see what it does. This truck takes whatever I throw at it and sends it right back....so why not?

So, on that note.....who wants to tell "Mr Kamikaze" how to program the trans to skip 1st gear?

Set all the 1-2 upshifts to 0 rpm and 0 mph. Do the same with 2-1 downshifts.

I made a second gear launch tune but never tried it and don't think I will. Use my truck for work pulling stuff so the last thing I want to do is smoke a converter trying it out. If your track has good traction I'm not sure it's worth the gamble.

don't $h!t your pants when the 2nd gear clunk happens while staging;)

x2 slowly bring the rpm up and then keep them up because if you let them fall it goes back into first and will clunk again , once you get the feel for it you can make it quite smooth but it can be harsh if you pedle it to hard . Also check in the trans section there is a first delete tune in there you can look at .

It's the only way I drag race now. But, I know I am taking a risk of taking out the converter. So far so good :D Plus now no matter how hard I launch I don't get wheel hop:driving:

When i used it for sled pulling i would tap the pedal till i felt it kick up into second gear then start building boost, kind of a pita, but i used it quite a bit last year.

do not hot lap.....check

It will also clunk every time you stop and go getting to the lanes. If for some reason Pat doesn't flash it before I leave the track. The kids are like Mom will you get Dad to flash your truck
