I personaly wear my seatbelt ALL the time. The vehicle won't move till everyone in it is buckled up. I do agree that its your choice, but its not fair to everyone that cares about you to not wear one. Ever been in a good wreck? Depending on the outcome, that's all it takes to make you start/keep wearing it. I'm not picking at or judging you just giving my opinion. The only reason cops are so hard on seatbelts is because of the people who die from not wearing them. Can't hate them for trying to save lives. Next time you get in the truck are you gonna remember that 160 it cost you and buckle up?

Ok,
On the side that you should have been wearing your seatbelt for safety reasons you made a personal judgement not to! Now on the side of the LAW at least here in florida, If you were in fact behind the wheel of a duramax equipped truck your truck exceeds the weight requirement that the seat belt law is applied to, (to use as a example, SCHOOL BUSES ) and you are not required or bound by law. So if you are really worried about the cost look up the laws in your state for rated vehicles and you should beat this ticket. GOOD LUCK!

Just driving around here you should always wear one and maybe a crash helmet as well. I have never lived in a place that has so many bad drivers. Tucson was't even this bad and there are more then 10 times the people. San Angelo has to be the worst place I have ever driven. I go down our "highway" every morning and about a month ago there were more then 6 seperate but related accidents within 15 minutes in a 2 mile stretch. A 16 yr old ran his suv up the cement embankment and rolled it on to its top 15 feet above the road:eek:and everyone had to slow down and look-more accidents-only 2 people actually stopped to check on them. I won't even drive around the shop without at least a lap buckle.

Take it to court, first time judge should throw it out,We get 30 days around here.I were mine in the 06 truck, but in the 01 suburban I can only wear part of it seems the belt is shorter. They need to make it fat man approved belts.

last ticket i got, the judge defferred it. i still had to pay court costs, which was like $95.00, but it's better than the whole thing.

or you can do defensive driving...pay court costs, and pay for a coarse, but it's not on your record and most of the time, you get a discount on insurance.

as for seat belts, in MOST cases, you should wear them, but i had a friend that was driving drunk, not wearing his seat belt, and doing 100mph. he lost control, the truck hit a ditch and catapolted over a fence. he was thrown out of the truck, and if he had worn his seat belt, he would have died. things happen for a reason, and for him, doing something that everyone says not to do saved his life.

I know exactly what you mean. San Angelo has the worstt drivers. I have never been in a place where more people flat out ignore stop signs, run red lights, and go the wrong speed all the time. Ive had old people completely run red lights in front of me then they get in the fast lane and go 20mph. Then theres a bunch of younger people who go 15 over everywhere they go. Driving in this town scares me at times. All of my friends have gotten in wrecks except me. Ive had two close friends total their trucks. Then all the others have gotten in smaller stuff like smashing their grill and stuff like that. I can think of several other people I know who have totalled their cars though. I almost always wear my seat belt and my dad has engrained it in my mind since I was a little kid to always wear one. But I forgot yesterday and paid the price.

San Angelo does have shitty drivers. Its even worse when it actually snows or ices over. Almost every idiot with a 4x4 thinks they can haul ass because they've got 4wd, but they don't think about having to stop!

you can also use the argument of "well the GMT-800 trucks and SUV's are belts-to-seats and not belts-to-pillars so most of the time its really hard to see whether the driver and front passenger are wearing seatbelts anyways. ;)

ben
not to mention from a car you can not see what the person is were 9 time out of 10. from the front or rear of said vehicles

most states i have been in seat belt are a secondary offense and you can not be pulled over for that alone.

my 75 K20 rarely wear it. and they are lap belts only
79 malibu all the time.... vynl bench i use it to keep my ass in place.. is the main reason for wearing it.
02 racing high speeds yes... DD 50/50

i have seen wrecks so both ways... were the seat belt saved adn kild the ocupants.
3-point belt are desing for stoping head-on as a main wreck... the do "help" in a roll over/spinning wreck.. but do NOT eliminate you head form flaiiling around.....

how many of said people that are pounding the seat belt pulpit
wear helmet, chest protectors, gloves, jackets, full pant, long sleaved shirt, riding boot/shoes not regular shoes, eye protection when riding atv/motorcycles??????

how many were PFD when boating?

To start off I always wear my seatbelt because it has saved my life once. But there are other instances where if people wouldn't of wore their seatbelt they would of lived. It's your choice. It's a victimless crime so why get ticketed for it?

i don't believe in seat belt laws. the same way i do not believe in pfd laws. under 18 you wear them period, over 18 and its your choice, same as the choice to smoke or drink. may not be the best idea but still your body and choice.

on a tangent i have personally seen more fatals at working wearing a seatbelt than not. has more to do with the physics of the accident and odds but still my observations none the less.

I'll begin wearing mine all the time, when they start, listing the statistics, those killed; wearing a seatbelt, not wearing a seat belt, would of probably died either way. I only wear mine at work. Most instances in my life the people I know that have been in serious wrecks wold of died with belts, and while thats not always the case, it has been a majority of the time in accidents where people I know have been involved.

BTW its only a $10 ticket in WI, and whats the hurt in just putting in on while a cop is walking up? Throw it on when there not looking, put the shoulder strap behind your back, and he'll never know the difference when he walks up, he'll just instruct you to wear it properly from now on. Saves paying tickets and taking off work to fight it in court.

I wear mine every time I am on the public road. My insurance will NOT cover ANY costs incurred in an accident if I dont have it on. Sorry to hear your ticket was so expensive. I got a ticket the other day in the company truck for a no turn on Red. Good grief, it was 5:45 AM and there wasnt another car (except the cops) anywhere in sight. $150 bones thank you very much. Gotta keep the city officials jobs secure ya know!

my dad was a fireman for 30 years and he said he has seen it go both ways , some people killed from not having it on and others that it didnt do them any favors.... but ultimatly more were saved from it . but as stated my gripe is not wether its the right choice because i stated i always were mine , its who should be the one making the choice... for me i have a 1year old daughter so if nothing else i wear if for her and my wife needing me to be there for them .

but the government should not have the right to choose for me, but i agree with the insurance company not having to fit the bill for that choice .

I think you should not be forced to wear a seat belt. Wear it if you want to. You probably are a lot safer with it but I have personally witnessed an accident where not wearing a seat belt saved my little brothers life. I was driving my dads 96 powerstroke and we went flipping out through the ditch. A hiway patrol gave me a ticket for not making him wear a seat belt. That was the best 50 dollars I ever spent.

I agree with OP about the ticket being a little steep on the amount. It doesn't take a $160 fine to remind somebody about wearing a seat belt.

I also do wear my seatbelt 99.999999% of the time. I just don't feel safe without it, I guess.

My take is, if the wreck is bad enough to kill a driver under "normal" (check below quote for opposite of normal) circumstances, it will be fatal whether you're wearing your seatbelt or not.

as for seat belts, in MOST cases, you should wear them , but i had a friend that was driving drunk, not wearing his seat belt, and doing 100mph. he lost control, the truck hit a ditch and catapulted over a fence. he was thrown out of the truck, and if he had worn his seat belt, he would have died. things happen for a reason, and for him, doing something that everyone says not to do saved his life.

So just (sarcastic) three violations validifies not wearing seat belts? I won't judge this particular situation, but I agree with blueox. If a story like he wrote about doesn't move someone to wear a seatbelt, you have to be pretty careless.

Also, since we're on this whole "accident" theme, I just want to say this to anyone that drives up to an accident scene. WATCH the ROAD & drive your a$$ away from the scene, NOT try to watch what's going on in the scene itself. Remember, there are rescuers on scene also! It's "rubberneckers" that get rescuers killed & cause secondary accidents.

I think the "well my brothers uncles cousins mailman was in an accident and if he was wearing it he would have died, so now Im not going to wear it" is a lame excuse.

If they did statistics, I can pretty much guarantee that say 95 times out of 100, wearing a seatbelt will save your life. Yeah ok fine, so there are those 5 times out of 100..............................

the question is...are you feeling lucky...punk? :D

"the government shouldn't tell me to wear my belt" - one of the dumbest things I often hear in life.... If you say that, you should NEVER, EVER, EVER complain about the price of ANY insurance. Not only do seatbelts significantly reduce your chances of dieing they also reduce injuries. Death and injuries cost WAAAAAYYY more than damage to cars in wrecks.

If it were true that not wearing a belt ONLY effected those not wearing it, it would be easy to say it's personal choice. Like I said from the beginning, if you think not wearing your belt only effects you, your self centered and narrow minded...
